Gates were open and we could just wander in and explore. Quite fascinating, and the dark tunnels with big moths sleeping on the walls did a great job of scaring the kids! Not sure I'd come too late in the day - there's plenty of evidence of teenage alcoholic japery taking place - and I'm sure there's plenty of ways you could hurt yourself in this ruin if you weren't careful, but it's absolutely worth a detour to visit, especially if you usually live in a country where health-and-safety rules mean that somewhere like this would never be...
Read moreBig fort with almost full access (some doorways are blocked). You can still see the ammunition lifts, but the fort was reinforced, some parts were filled with concrete, and the old ammunition doorways to the turrets have been sealed.
You can get onto the roof of the fort, and in some of the darker rooms there are bats (don’t disturb them).
