For me this is the best looking castle in Croatia. After renovation looks great. Castle date from the 12th century. Most of the castle was built by the Hungarian noble family of Ráttkay, in whose ownership it remained until 1793. The castle chapel on the first floor contains the skull of the legendary Veronika of Desinić. According to leggend, Veronika was eventually imprisoned by soldiers in Veliki Tabor. Old count Herman accused unfortunate Veronika of being a witch who had cast a spell on his son. Despite the verdict, as soon as the judges set off on their way, Count Herman issued an order to his castellan that Veronika be killed. A large vat filled with water was put up in the courtyard of Veliki Tabor, in which Veronika was drowned. Her body was built into the wall connecting the pentagonal tower to the castle entrance. Veronika's wails can still be heard, especially in long winter nights, along with the howling...

Beautiful castle. Entrance fee is 25kn. Staff and service is disgusting! Pure disappointment!! When we entered the castle, I saw a group of people practicing archery. Decided to try as well after having a look around and when not so many people there. In 30 minutes I came back to the place and asked staff to give it a try in archery. The first answer was something I am tired, then she asked a guy to help me with this. He was busy with his lunch as it was turned out. Then, I received another answer that this is only for a group of people, not individuals. I asked to explain the difference between individual and a group of people. There was no proper explanation. Then, I was told that group paid for it. I said I am opened to pay as well. I went to the counter to ask this. I received the answer that archery is only for groups not individuals, and they paid for it. It was useless to continue this...

Since my last review was deleted, i am posting again to warn the public about the rudeness of the official guide. The main door was slammed in our face with a rude comment not to knock and check what is written on the official sign, even though according to the official working hours sign the museum should have been open (2.11.2019., 15:00). I would just like to remind the official lady/guide in question that the sign and the whole institution is funded through public funds and it is not her own property used for venting her personal frustrations. Communism ended in the 80’s, but it would seem that the news never reached the area.
