A relatively isolated mountain in northern Croatia with the summit reaching 643 m.a.s.l. Nevertheless, Kalnik is very attractive due to it's prominence, features and geologic characteristics. Alpine and Dinaride tectonic subplates collide here to form Kalnik's rocky (limestone and dolomite) ridge. A large TV/radio transmitter near the peak makes it even more recognizable from afar. Numerous paths lead to the peak and the hike can be easily made by both children and the elderly. Probably the most attractive approach is "Staza 7 zubi" which starts at the mountain lodge parking lot and goes along the ridge ("7 rocky teeth") all the way to the summit. This path is also dangerous in some places and requires climbing skills. Another climbing option is a technically very difficult Via Ferrata just next to the radiotransmitter.
