My wife and I came across Vino Špaleta inspired by one of the Polish culinary critics, travellers, journalists and food enthusiasts, Robert Makłowicz.
We were looking for a good winemaker, someone with a passion and experience, making sublime wine in limited quantities and someone for whom the quality of the final product is their top priority. We would have found our way to Ivo and Renata anyway, but it would definitely take us longer, if it weren't for Robert.
Ivo Šplaeta, the winemaker, whose winemaking has gone from one generation to another for almost 500 years, makes three kinds of wine, the rose, Plavac Mali and Plavac Mali Selekcija. All of them are top-notch, delightful and superb wines. My wife and I especially love the standard Plavac Mali, whose incredible scent and taste is outstanding and one of a kind. Once you open the bottle, decant the wine, and let it breathe for a while, the scent fills the room - something that cannot be experienced with mass-produced wines one can get in the local grocery store.
Renata also makes amazing sweet goodies you can buy while at their place, like sugar-coated orange peels and almonds, as well as fig jam, so make sure you try them out.
Wine tasting, accompanied by snacks and tales about wine is also available at Vino Špaleta, and we strongly encourage everyone to experience that as well.
The most important thing that makes this place unique is the hospitality and atmosphere created by the Špaletas. It's a place one will always return to while around Peliešac and the door is almost always open for wine lovers and wine connoisseurs.
Vino Špaleta is a top-quality destination for every knowledgeable and discerning wine enthusiast who only appreciates the best product of absolutely top quality.
