We've been in Veli Žal in June 2019, we spent our 2 first days on Sakarun beach but due to beach being full of algae roots we decided to go explore the island and we came to Veli Žal, I would definitely say its the best beach on the island of Dugi Otok. There were just a few people around (see pictures) with beautiful clear water for swimming with sand on the bottom. The beach is very quiet, there are not any food stands or attractions (at the time we were there, I didnt see any) so make sure to bring something to eat and drink as the sun is boiling hot. I would say the car is needed. There is a lot of space for parking and the road is fully paved all the way down to the beach, shouldnt be a problem to get there with pretty much any car. When you come down to "car park" you have to follow the small path (100 meters) to get to this part of the beach (on pictures), other parts are made of sharp rocks, so not very safe. Definitely...

When we arrived there were many people but there was enough space on the beach and in the water. Similar to Sakarun beach, you can walk pretty far into the water. Snorkeling was nice here as well. There are no trees at all - umbrella is a must-have here. There’s also a little beach bar with food and drinks with a nice set-up. Parking was 30 kuna, but that’s ~4,50€ - totally worth it. The street is a little stony and small, but definitely enough space to avoid an oncoming car. Nice, rather quiet spot with a great view of...
Read moreVeli Žal beach is a clear and blue beautiful warm beach. It’s hard to pick a favourite between here and Sakarun. Definitely less crowded and only a few yachts/ boats. Here is no seaweed at least very little, more rocks but rounded ones. Of course being in Croatia you’ll have water shoes anyways so no issues. A bit of a walk from the car but so very worth it. We set up & stay for half the day go home have lunch and come back. No one one bothered our things just secure them in case a breeze comes in and takes your towels / chairs away. A small beach bar here but we always pack...
