Untouched nature, natural shade made of green tall trees, waterfall and small rivers coming from the mountain itself forming a lake where the cute little ducks reside, narrow stairs done in an old fashion or carved in stone, green grass and fresh air....you get a feeling that you are in a fairy tale or at least that you got sucked into the world of Lord of the rings! The nature there is magnificent! There is also a restaurant with delicious dishes but be prepared to wait a long time in line for a table. My suggestion is to take your own prepared food and drinks, you can even make a barbecue on the spots that are out there for it, but a lot of people are using it so maybe you need to wait a little to use one. You can replenish your bottles with fresh mountain water for no cost just in front of the restaurant. Also, there is a cute souvenir shop in an old but beautifully restaurated house and the toilets are in the ground floor of the same building and you can use them for free. The entry ticket is only 10 kuna. Be advised that there is no fence on the majority of the path so if you come with kids, keep a really close eye on them. I definitely recommend using walking sticks since some parts of the path are not cleaned from fallen leaves and it can be slippery, especially on the way down towards the waterfalls. All in all, be ready for a...
Read moreBeautiful park, but getting there can be tricky. My advice: drive to the Jankovac Lodge using the Northern Road from Slatinski Drenovac. Avoid the southern road from Velika: it's a rather narrow gravel road wirh steep drops on the side. Even in my small car it was rather nerve wrecking. Also the road isn't properly maintained along the entire route. You can park and grab something to eat/drink at Jankovac lodge and start the "official" route, which will take you past the waterfalls. There were no other maps/routes available at the visitor center, so if you want to take another route or visit the castle ruins you have to plan your own route (i used...
Read moreAmazing nature but as lots of the old forest is cut I would like to upgrade Papuk from nature to national park to be protected. And we were surprised to see so many animal life while hiking peaks. In the past there were bears and wolf packs here but with so many hunters I do not know if they can live here anymore. But we had close encounters or saw from car on the road 7 times deer, wild boar, rabbit, snake, falcon and mouse. While driving in sunset you need to be very careful as you will hit some wild animal if you are driving too fast, we had several close...
