Entrance to Crocodile Farm — Attraction in Matanzas

We were lucky that the criadero (nursery) was practically empty when we visited. It as very hot, so avoiding delays caused by crowds was great.

Very educational and well looked-after nature park with loads of Cuban crocodiles at every stage of development from hatchlings to enormous mature adults. Everything was explained to us in great detail and I learned something new about the Bay of Pigs invasion: A lot of the invading troops were killed and eaten by these crocodiles in the swamps around where we were standing.

Typical outdoor public toilets, but this time the worst so far. No light, extremely humid, all urinalshadbeen smashed off the walls, no running water to either flush or wash one's hands, and still the matronly guardian of the toilet paper was outside with her wicher bowl!

Lunch was included and OK, following the usual pattern of you eat what you're given, no choices and you pay for any drinks - not even water is included.

After lunch, we were due to go on a boat trip around the swamp etc, to see the crocs, but it was far too hot and there was no cover on the smallish boat so we decided against going out on the water and barbecuing ourselves!

All in all a good visit to see...

Criadero de Cocodrilos – hodowla krokodyli. Rozmnaża się tutaj dwa gatunki większego krokodyla amerykańskiego i mniejszego, rdzennego krokodyla kubańskiego . Ośrodek został założony tuż po zwycięstwie rewolucji – przyroda i ekosystem Kuby od początku były oczkiem w głowie Fidela.  Można  zamówić mięso z ogona krokodyla w restauracji. Smak to połączenie ryby i kurczaka. Dla turystów są wytyczone ścieżki, wzdłuż których rosną egzotyczne rośliny. Bary i sklep z pamiątkami oraz nieduże chatki pokryte trzciną. Na pierwszy rzut farma krokodyli to naprawdę urokliwe miejsce sporych rozmiarów , na której możecie zobaczyć prawdziwe krokodyle kubańskie. Cały obiekt przypomina klimatyczny park. Dla turystów są wytyczone ścieżki, wzdłuż których rosną egzotyczne rośliny.  Na pierwszy rzut ferma krokodyli to naprawdę urokliwe miejsce. Rezerwat krokodyla kubańskiego to miejsce gdzie zwierzęta  dla własnego bezpieczeństwa  segregowane są wiekiem. Te najmniejsze mają zaledwie kilka tygodni. Są zamknięte w niedużych domkach, do których turyści mogą zajrzeć przez siatki zastępujące okna. W nich zobaczycie głównie  maluchy. Widok tych gadów z bliska niesamowity. Jedną z atrakcji na Farmie jest możliwość nakarmienia krokodyla. Za symboliczną opłatą dostaniecie prowizoryczną wędkę, na końcu której zawieszona będzie mało apetyczna  przekąska tj. rybia głowa. Kiedy chwilę pomachacie nią nad pyskami krokodyli, zobaczycie jak wygląda ich polowanie na ruchomy cel i że mają dobry refleks. Na fermie krokodyli zobaczycie też inne zwierzaki , takie jak żółwie wodne, a na drzewie możecie spotkać gryzonia hutię kubańską czyli szczur drzewny. Niesamowitym wspomnieniem jest również dopłynięcie  na wyspę bardzo szybką łódką i podziwiać niesamowite widoki przypominające krajobraz z...

I can’t recommend this place less. Despite being advertised as a sanctuary to protect the animals, it is far from that.

Upon entry, you are greeted by a crocodile with a sombrero that you can pay to take photos with. As you walk to where the large crocodiles are, you pass by a store that sells crocodile teeth, heads and skin bracelets… and even worse, a crocodile meat kitchen.

Once we arrived at the so called ‘sanctuary’ the smell is FOUL and these beautiful animals live in a dirty swamp. Sadly, we even saw two dead crocodiles with living ones just sleeping next to...
