The journey through the caves was around 20 minutes tops. According to my tour guide, the caves were under much water centuries ago, and the Indians used it as a hiding space from the Conquistadors. Today, one is able to walk through a portion of the caves and take a boat/canoe for the remaining portion. It was the canoe portion that I found most interesting. The water itself is a rusty, muddy color. Taking a closer look at the cave walls you are able to outline different things such as fish, crocodiles, the three ships that Christopher Columbus came with, etc. The locals say that this was the handy work of nature but I am a little skeptical. The details of these individual items are too distinct. 🤷🏾‍♀️. Take a tour and judge...

Literally 20 minutes by car or bus from the Viñales hotel Los Jazmines or Hotel La Ermita, The Cueva del Indio or in English, “Indian Cave” is an extensive underground cavern with 10 to 20 meter high ceilings. The initial part of the visit includes walking through richly colored Stalactites and stalagmites, conical deposits emanating from the roof and floor of the cave. The second part of the trip is truly fantastic as you board a small boat which meanders through a river within the cave until you see light at the end of the tunnel and are left near a beautiful river where your bus will be waiting. The Indian Cave is a cheap excursion from all the hotels and well worth a visit while you are staying in Viñales or Pinar...

This place is a disappointment, and I would truly call it a tourist trap especially when you come by the tourist bus and the next one comes in an hour and a half. The price is 5 CUC (or 5 CUP for locals), before entering the cave there are 2 people pretending to be natives and asking for tips. The cave is about 200 meters of walking after which you get in the boat which takes you 100 meters into one direction, tells you the cave goes on for another kilometer and turns around, before you are allowed to get off you are handed a tip jar, after which the boat continues. at the end of the boat trip there is an Ox you can take pictures of (for money) and some gift shops, the good thing is the gift shops are...

This place reminded me of the cave at Rudy Falls in Tennessee! The only difference was this cave had a pretty cool boat ride at the end, and there wasn't a line of people coming back the opposite way like the cave in Tennessee! I also liked the little water at the end of the cave! It would have been nice if the river that is the deepest inside the cave could be followed further down the stream once it exit the cave! There is also a big waterfalls inside the cave just like the one at Rudy Falls, but it's not lit like Ruby Falls! This was a nice outing!
