Misleading Advertising for Easter egg hunting 2025
We recently attended the Easter egg hunting event at Cyherbia after seeing a televised advertise on Sigma TV on Tuesday 22 April 2025.
On TV the owner personally welcomed families to participate in what seemed like a lovely day of activities. She described an event where each child would receive a basket to collect eggs hidden around the farm—and that the basket and eggs would be theirs to keep. It sounded charming and sincere, so we decided to make the trip from the Nicosia. A road trip that took over an hour to get there, through the village of Aygorou.
Unfortunately, the reality did not match the promises. The first surprise was the high ticket price: €10 per adult and €6 per child aged 5-12 (children under 4 were free). While we expected some cost, we were disappointed to learn that face painting and all other activities were to be paid extra.
The real letdown began with the egg hunt itself. There were not enough baskets available. We had to wait 20 minutes for one—and it was not the traditional Cypriot-style basket shown on TV by the owner. Instead, we were given a flimsy, made-in-China mini basket. As the event started, we discovered that the “eggs” were not even chocolate, but cheap foam ones. Even worse, we could clearly see staff openly scattering the eggs from plastic boxes into bushes—not exactly the magical, surprise-filled experience we envisioned.
We were further told that children shouldn't collect too many eggs, as they had to “leave some for others.” This completely went against the original concept presented by the owner. After deciding to stop the hunt due to the rising heat, we were shocked when the young lady at the kiosk took our child's basket and eggs away, handing over a single chocolate stick from Lidl, likely worth less than 50 cents. The look on our child’s face—and that of many other kids on place—was one of pure disappointment.
As someone from Northern Europe, where Easter egg hunting is a long-standing and authentic tradition, this experience felt hollow and commercialised.
The place itself is not bad, but this kind of places, need lots of care. Cyherbia part addressed to public is obviously missing some care to make it a nice place to visit, lots of lizards popping out from bushes, lots of dry plantation and weeds, not clean and hospitable kiosk, with unfriendly grey rocks for pavement and sunshades not screwed on ground to ensure safety.

Read moreEDIT: I have to remove 1 star because this year the kitchen got much worse. I'm not sure if it's because of the end of the season or something else, but I was badly disappointed with the food today. Apart from that, the place is still great. But it's sadly more of "bring your own snack" from now on.
It's a great place for all those who look for something calm, natural and close to nature. There's also lots of possible activities for children. The herbs garden is really fascinating with all its smells, shapes and info provided in English, Greek, Russian and German. The maze with its tower is a nice intermission adventure and the Cyprus-shaped park offers a relaxing mixture of walking space, info on Cypriot landmarks, small attractions for children and has a few shaded benches which are especially desirable in the scorching summer months (-_-)'. We strongly recommend you to try the cuisine in here, too. It's very tasty (chickpeas curry FTW! 1 km from the "2nd stop Avgorou Settlement" bus stop, though). Strongly recommended for all the nature lovers and those who have...
Read moreMy wife and I attended the Wild Greens of Cyprus workshop today. Miranda was an exceptional host and very knowledgable herbalist. She taught us about the wild edibles available in Cyprus throughout February and early March (thanks to the rains). She was very welcoming and answered all of our questions.
Following a crash course in foraging in their private garden we were treated to an incredible spread by Chef Kim. She incorporated many of the wild greens we had learned about in her experimental recipes and they were fabulous. Kim was very attentive and concious of our dietary requirements.
The other members of staff on the day were also very helpful, friendly and passionate about what Cyherbia does. We will definately be going again throughout the year to see how the gardens change and how the plants are harvested and turned into essential oils.
I can't recomend this enough. It's a great place full of...
