Santa Irene Winery — Attraction in Farmakas

The best buffet I’ve experienced in Cyprus so far! The variety of dishes is truly exceptional—from fish, octopus, red and white meats, to more than six different salads, and a wide array of both traditional and European sweets. Visually, the spread is a feast for the eyes before you even take your first bite.

The wine is equally fascinating. They don’t use yeast in the way we’re familiar with. The grapevines in this region are unique, requiring no irrigation, and naturally develop their own yeast on the surface of the grapes. This yeast is collected and used for fermentation. After the grapes are processed, they also produce Zivania, a strong spirit with an alcohol content of 40-43%. It’s delicious, and I personally enjoy it on cold evenings, not only as a drink but for its medicinal qualities.

I highly recommend this secluded mountain spot for a Sunday lunch, any time of the year, with family and friends. On some days, after lunch, you have the opportunity to visit the winery, where you’ll get a brief but insightful explanation of the winemaking process. You can also purchase as much as you’d like, and even arrange a wine tasting for a small fee.

Great food in restaurant - best greek meze in Limassol area I tried (a bit of a fusion twist, but only makes it better). Restaurant with a fantastic sunset view right from your table. Works till late - I came 5:30pm, sunset was around 7:45, so had time for wine tasting and dinner. Wine tasting is good experience here because they produce 14 types of red and white wines, plus some spirits you try as well. Staff there speaks very good english and very friendly. Road to this place from Limassol is enjoyable to drive with beautiful serpentines, hills and nice views. Excellent place, very hospitable staff, and a nice route from Limassol to the winery in the village of Farmakas. The winery has its own restaurant called "Ierambelos" so every visitor can combine the winery visit with the delicious meals available there! Santa Irene Winery produces several wines, rose, red and white but the uniqueness and speciality of this winery is the concept to produce wines based only on 100% Cyprus grapes varieties "Mavro Ampelisimo" (red) and "Xinistery" (white).
