ALL INFO THAT YOU NEED! Don't listen to the people that say that the road is bad!! I went from the direction of Coral Bay, do not go from Peyia! I made it to the beach just fine in my fwd Nissan note, I went 20-40kmph, took me around 20 minutes from start the of the off-road to finish. Maybe the road was bad last year, but it's ok right now. There are some rough patches where you have to slow down for a bit, but nothing crazy or scary. The drive is totally worth it.

It's a secluded beach with no sunbeds, umbrellas or bars, as these are not allowed, so be sure to take sunscreen, food and plenty of water when you go there! Also there are no showers, so I would recommend taking some regular water to wash off the salt from yourselves. The water is warmer than on most beaches because it's quite shallow, you can walk out into the water for ~10m and it will still be at your waist, but you can swim further with no problem. The sand underwater is super soft. Unfortunately the beach itself is a bit dirty, you can spot pieces of plastic in the sand, sometimes even in the water. Most visitors pick up some of the trash on their way back, there is a big dumpster at the entrance. (Edit: went there again a couple of times in the middle of June and the dumpster wasn't there both of the times, just FYI)

Now about the turtles. I went there twice in May 2025, saw a couple metal cages at the beach, under which there are eggs, but you can't see them as they are buried in the sand. Not too far from the shore I saw 2 turtles' flippers poke out of the water for a minute or two, I guess they were eating the seagrass. I wasn't expecting to see them at all.

The views are breathtaking, there are mountains to the right of the beach, and the beach itself is like a bay. I think it would be a nice place to come to if you have kids as well, as they could play in the shallow waters and you wouldn't have to worry about other people.

This is a MUST VISIT if you are coming here on vacation! Just make sure that your car rental company allows you to go off-road, some of them might void your insurance if you...

Lara Bay Beach: A Tranquil Coastal Haven in Paphos, Cyprus

Nestled within the rugged beauty of the Akamas Peninsula, Lara Bay Beach offers a serene escape for those seeking both natural splendor and a touch of ancient mythology. Here’s why this secluded spot deserves a special place in your Cyprus adventure:

Mythical Origins:

According to local legend, Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, used to bathe in the crystal-clear waters of Lara Bay.

The bay’s name itself evokes images of timeless romance and mythical encounters.

Untouched Beauty:

Lara Bay remains relatively untouched by modern development. Its pristine sands stretch along the coast, inviting visitors to unwind and connect with nature.

The absence of noisy crowds allows for quiet contemplation and relaxation.

Turtle Conservation:

Lara Bay is famous for its turtle conservation efforts. The beach serves as a nesting ground for endangered loggerhead and green sea turtles.

During nesting season (typically from May to August), visitors may witness the remarkable sight of baby turtles hatching and making their way to the sea.

Access and Adventure:

To reach Lara Bay, embark on a scenic drive from Paphos. The journey takes you through rugged landscapes, adding to the sense of adventure.

The road may be bumpy, but the reward at the end is well worth it.

Sunset Magic:

As the sun dips below the horizon, casting warm hues across the bay, Lara Beach becomes a canvas for breathtaking sunsets.

Capture the moment with your camera or simply savor it with your own eyes.

A Place to Disconnect:

Leave behind the hustle and bustle of city life. At Lara Bay, you’ll find simplicity, solitude, and the soothing rhythm of the waves.

Pack a picnic, bring a good book, and let time slow down.

In summary, Lara Bay Beach is more than a coastal stretch—it’s a sanctuary where ancient myths meet conservation efforts, and where the timeless beauty of Cyprus...

Lara Bay is a justifiably famous natural beach on the Akamas Peninsula, that also hosts a turtle sanctuary. It is well worth a visit and if you are very lucky you may even get to see the wardens releasing baby turtles into the ocean. Please obey the rules though. We have included a copy of them in this review so you know what you can and cannot do.

Getting There: Lara Bay is a bit of an enigma. If you approach from the direction of Paphos and Coral Bay, on the main road, you may well end at the beach by Lara Bay Restaurant. Confusingly, this is not Lara Bay. So go back to the main track, and continue into the Akamas for a little while longer.

Most people drive the coastal route from Agios Georgios and Peyia. This route is quite bumpy and most suited for four wheel drive cars. However, lots of standard cars do make the journey. An easier route can be found from Ineia. That road is smoother and more gentle.

Rules: FISHERIES LAW, CAP. 135 Regulations, 1989

IN THIS AREA IT IS FORBIDDEN TO:

Place any sunbed, umbrella, caravan, ten, etc. Stay on the beaches or the coastal area at night, starting one hour before sunset. Fish, except with a rod and line. Use or anchor a boat without a permit. Drive any vehicle on the beaches.
