Very poor wine tasting experience. We paid €30 for tasting of 5 wines with some cheese for 2 people. Wine was served in good condition, but in very small cheap glass that doesn’t allow the aromas of the wine to be shown off. Cheese was of very poor quality, cheap, plastic-like and of some very unnatural looking hues. Each of us had one bite and did not touch the rest. Our host poured a wine, then disappeared for 5 mins or so, leaving us to wait for the next sample. We were not offered any info about the wines other than the brochure and were not offered to be shown around any part of the winery or vineyard. At end of the tasting our host asked us about the cheese and we said we did not like it…but she did not make any further comment and asked us for our €30. I have visited over 100 wineries (I work in the industry) and this was by far the least inviting and lazy tasting I have ever experienced. Perhaps the language barrier did not help (I don’t speak Greek) but even so! I give 2 stars instead of 1 on account of the nice view and the wines being served in...
Read moreI called the day before to make a reservation at Kolios Winery at 2 pm. We drove 45 minutes to get there and when we arrived at 2pm they said 'something came up and they can't seat us'. When I said I called yésterday and that we drove a while to get there they agreed to seating us but were clearly in a rush and annoyed. They rushed us through 5 wines and 10 minutes later we were standing outside again. It was clear they just didn't want us there and the whole time their family was waiting for us to leave with screaming kids running through the room. When we left they all had lunch together in the winery. I don't understand why they agreed to our reservation the day before and didn't call us to cancel so we didn't drive for almost two hours back and forth for this extremely...
Read moreI visited many wineries in Cyprus (I am a wine blogger) and my experience here was the worst. They are not really happy about visitors. Maybe if you are a big group and you order in advance your experience will be better than mine, but if you are only 2 persons and you come without reservation you will feel not like a guest here, but like someone who disturbs them a lot. Wine tasting is possible for minimum 2 persons, so if you are alone you will not be able to try anything here. My husband was a driver, so he didn't drink, but we payed for him otherwise I wouldn't be able to try wines. Wine tasting isn't expensive, so this is not a problem, but just strange. For the first time I had such an...
