Agios Georgios Mavrovouniou — Attraction in Troulloi

This place is breathing with the unearthly Christian Orthodox ambience. The fact it's unearthly makes it imposible to depict this place using earthly words we all use, so better come visit the shrine. It enlivens souls, dried with our sins, vanity, anger. Yeah, even the plants, herbs and flowers that enrich the monastery are all green and live when all the earth around is wan, dead and thirsty. The venetian architecture adds a feeling that this place is an ageless oasis in the stormy world of ruthless Time's reign (Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion's paws - as Shakespeare said). What excited me even more is that there are two more shrines a few steps away from the monastery, the saint Marina Cave and Chapel, connected to the cave with an inconspicuous aisle, and the Saint Mary of Egypt Cave -Chapel, which is (!) cut in a rock. You can find them attendind the path accross the monastery. But better ask the monks to show you the way, for it may be pretty hard to find it; for your information one of the monks can speak Russian. The chapels impressed me as much as the main church itself. There's a kind of a museum building for tourists right after the entrance, check it out. The monks are friendly, as well as the cats - so lovely and elegant, they inhabit and adorn the monastery, pleasing tourists with their deep deep (even like they are spirited) eyes, courteous grace and fur downiness. One of them, the puffy grey one, appeared at the path to St. Marina Chapel & Cave, and accompanied us to the St. Mary of Egypt Cave and back, and somehow dissapeared at the point where he emerged. Maybe he is one blessed, spirited cat, who is at the guard of the two Holy Shrines. Surely visit this...

Ο Αγιος Γεώργιος Μαυροβουνίου είναι ένας από τους πιο ιστορικούς και γραφικούς ναούς στην Κύπρο, ο οποίος βρίσκεται στην περιοχή Μαυροβούνι, κοντά στην πόλη Λεμεσός. Ο ναός είναι αφιερωμένος στον Άγιο Γεώργιο, έναν από τους πιο αγαπητούς και προσφιλείς αγίους στην Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία, και αποτελεί σημαντικό θρησκευτικό σημείο για τους ντόπιους και τους επισκέπτες της περιοχής.
