As locals, we often overlook the treasures in our own backyard, but visiting the Koumandaria Museum in Zoopigi was a beautiful reminder of our island's rich heritage. The museum is small but full of character, nestled in a charming traditional stone house that feels like a step back in time.
We were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were clearly passionate about preserving and sharing the story of Koumandaria – Cyprus’ legendary sweet wine. The exhibits are simple but informative, with old tools, winemaking equipment, and historical facts that paint a clear picture of how this centuries-old tradition shaped our region.
The best part was the tasting session at the end – you really can’t appreciate Koumandaria until you’ve tasted it in the village where it has been made for generations. The view from Zoopigi is also stunning, especially in the late afternoon.
