Car park about 500m below the ruins with watch tower is very convenient for those who are a bit lazy - like us. The path is via lovely woodland and leads to the castle ruins which are maintained, and very friendly staff offers some bites to recharge the energy.

You can spend a New Years Eve there (we have been told) with country music which I can not imagine how wonderfull that must be!

It is a living piece of history where all family can spend a great time.

The view from the top of the tower (last 64 steps) is simply amazing and if you are spending time arround Lipno nad Vltavou, just take a ferry in Frymburk and drive to the castle (10 mins).

It is well worth it,...

A trip to the Vítkův Hrádek castle ruins was an absolute delight. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. We particularly enjoyed trying on the medieval costumes and taking photos with the fake swords—it made for some truly memorable and fun moments.

But the real highlight is the view from the top of the tower. The climb up is well worth it, as you're rewarded with a truly spectacular, panoramic vista that stretches for miles over the Lipno Lake and the surrounding landscape. It’s the perfect spot to take some breathtaking photos and just soak in...

Remains of the medieval castle deep in the Šumava mountains forest. The travel there takes time, the road is narrow and winding, but leads through beautiful forest scenery. The final 0.5 km you should walk to the mountain top. A castle tower and some pieces of walls are not much to look at. Most people come here for the scenery and views over surrounding hills and the Lipno lake. When we came, the castle was shrouded in fog, it was raining, and the tower was closed. So you should mind a weather before going to the...

Wittingstein (Vitkuv Kamen) is the highest castle in Bohemia (1035m), the home to once powerful house of Wittings/ Vitkovci. Place served as the stronghold on the merchant crossroads, source of the wealth of the owners. The nearby settlement of St. Thomas serves as a hub for holidaymakers wanting to walk the last quarter-mile - this is a dreadful alley to be avoided by any traveller enjoying solitude...

Amazing views from the top of the castle and also for kids a lot of information and toys to play with. The short walk from the parking was doable and even when the weather is not that great, it is totally recommended to explore the surroundings!
