Minaret in Lednice - an interesting Moorish style and at the same time The oldest romantic building in the Lednice-Valtice area, from the years 1797 - 1802, is located near the castle in Lednice. It is the largest building of its kind in non-Islamic countries. The height is over 60 meters, from the top you can see the distant surroundings. On the 1st floor is restored lounges. The building lies at an altitude of 175 m above sea level, is visible from a wide area, a beautiful view is a view through the park from Lednice Castle. Minaret has three observation decks and 302 steps lead to the highest. You can walk to the lookout tower after a 1.5 km journey through the castle park along the plain or you can take a boat ride along the castle Dyje from the pier...

The guy working at the cash desk last Thursday was RUDE and so typically... Czech. (Not Moravian - Moravians are usually polite and helpful!) Seriously, how difficult or time-consuming is it to answer with a "no" to the question: "are there baby-changing facilities in these toilets?", (which are literally directly right next to you, in the same building, and which you definitely use yourself), rather than repeating: "the toilets belong to the cafe."...?

Otherwise... worth the climb up the stairs for the fabulous view of the château grounds, the surrounding area and villages, and even Austria!

I'd just suggest that they sack the guy and hire someone with actual customer service skills to man...

Lednický Minaret je asi 62 metrů vysoká romantická rozhledna se třemi vyhlídkovými ochozi se 302 schody. Nachází se v areálu zámeckého parku Lednice a je součástí Lednicko - valtického areálu zapsaného na seznamu světového kulturního dědictví UNESCO v Jihočeském kraji. Jedná se o druhou nejstarší dochovanou rozhlednu na Českém území a zároveň o jediný minaret v České republice. Od roku 1958 je na seznamu kulturních památek ČR. Rozhlednu nechal postavit Alois l. z Lichtenštejna. Zakladatel lednického parku v duchu tehdy módního orientálního stylu podle vzoru anglických zahrad s romantickými stavbami. Stavěla se v letech 1797 - 1804 stavba byla provedena v komplikovaných podmínkách na močálovém měkkém podloží a tak bylo k zajištění základů použito 500 pilotů z dubového dřeva a na nich položen rošt z 96 silných kmenů. V roce 1868 za knížete Jana ll. z Lichtenštejna byl interiér minaretu dekorován v tureckém stylu. Minaret byl využíván jako odpočinkové místo a poskytoval vyhlídku na celý zámecký areál a do dalekého okolí. Větší opravou prošel minaret v 80 - 90 letech 20 století, kdy bylo nutno řešit problémy se statikou. Počátkem 21 století proběhla celková rekonstrukce, po které je možné si prohlédnout celý objekt.
