A cute smaller castle of almost cubic shape deep in Kokořínsko forests. Its name means "Bun" in the Czech language.
Privately owned and very popular due to its various mysteries and tales surrounding it - Apparently, the castle is placed at the location that makes no strategical sense, so it is believed it guards the entrance to hell.
Great story and the 1 hour long and humorous guided tour masterfully builds on top of it. The guides and castellan are really good entertainers, but you can only fully enjoy it in Czech language (still, there are written transcriptions to most main languages available).
Expect a lots of tourists during high season (summer holidays + warm weekends), so you may end up queuing for 15 minutes to buy tickets and a good portion of the hour-long tour will (unfortunately) be hordes of people moving between locations and waiting for everyone.
Despite over tourism, the price to fun ratio is quite reasonable and I can highly recommend...
Read moreWe have visited many castles recently and this one didn't feel like the same level of delivery. There were so many people on the tour it was difficult to crowd in and view the spaces. There is now paid parking with a decent walk up hill. The tour ends with viewing the 'gate to hell' but my husband that visited years ago said what we view now is just a themed room in a different part of the castle. He has some photos previously from when he was there. He said the tour was in basic Czech (he is a native Czech speaker) and I had an English pamphlet to read which was badly printed. I would recommend the drive to many other sites...
Read moreSmall picturesque castle with the occult background. The castle itself is nothing overwhelming or spectacular (there is dozens more beautiful and majestic castle in the Czech Republic then this one), but it has still its own charm. Nice guided tours are provided. The guide on the one which we visited was actually a very entertaining and funny guy and we enjoyed it. One huge benefit which I really appreciate is that you can take your dog on the guided tour even to interiors with you. And when I say dog I mean any kind of dog, not just a small breeds. That's amazing and thanks a...
