Mayrau Mine Open-Air Museum — Attraction in okres Kladno

We have nothing but positive things to say about our visit to the Mayrau Mining Museum! Despite the fact we showed up on a Sunday when most things seemed to be closed, Dominic and his father - who used to work in the mines - took the time to give us an amazing and in-depth tour of the museum and its surroundings. Not only was it educational, but we actually had a lot of fun! We highly enjoyed this sort of impromptu stop while visiting Kladno for a hockey game and trying to find something to do. Great museum! We have visited mines in Germany, England, Poland and Belgium and this one has some unique features: the shaft houses and engine houses date back to the 19th century and are in their original state. There are some beautiful steam engines inside. The atmosphere is very nice, a bit urbex style. We got a private guide because there were no other visitors. Really a great tour. We went here because a Dutch television show was filmed here. If you like desolate buildings and are the urban exploring type this is the place.

What pictures can't grasp is the smell. You smell the oil, the machines. Everything is in original condition.
