Hořín lock — Attraction in okres Mělník

Nepřehlédnutelnou stavbou ze zámecké vyhlídky je hořínské zdymadlo, součást vodního díla – plavebních komor na hořínsko-vraňanském kanálu, vybudovaném v letech 1902 – 1905 v důsledku špatné splavnosti dolního toku Vltavy. Zdymadlo, secesní objekt z kamene, cihel a kovových konstrukcí, je jedním z nejvýznamnějších děl pražského architekta Františka Sandera (1871 – 1932), autora návrhů četných vodních děl. Je zachováno v perfektním stavu a představuje významnou architektonickou a technickou památku, kterou doplňuje obytný dům pro obsluhu zdymadla. Vyústění kanálu do řeky Labe je často mylně považováno za soutok. Pokud si chcete zdymadlo Hořín prohlédnout hezky zblízka, můžete využít přívoz Mělník – Brozánky pod zámeckými vinicemi, u mostu Josefa Straky. Od něj je to ke zdymadlu přibližně 10 minut klidné chůze.

An unforgettable building from the castle's outlook is the Hořice Lock, a part of the waterworks - the chambers of navigation on the Brolin-Vraňany Canal, built in 1902 - 1905 due to the poor navigability of the lower Vltava River. The locker, an Art Nouveau building from stone, brick and metal structures, is one of the most important works of Prague architect František Sander (1871 - 1932), the author of numerous water works designs. It is preserved in perfect condition and represents an important architectural and technical monument, which is complemented by a residential house for the sluice operation. The flow of the canal into the River Elbe is often mistakenly considered as a confluence of Elbe and Vltava. If you want to see the Hořín locker very close, you can use the Mělník - Brozánky Ferry under the vineyards, at Josef Straka Bridge. It's about 10 minutes of serene walk...

Very interesting at the moment as it is whole dogged deep down for the repair works. Unfortunately, it is not allowed to get close to it to see it properly. There is a ferry (during a season) running a cross the river but be careful as it's not below the lock it actually runs from somewhere around...

The Hořin bridge and all other bridges over Moldau in the area are under repairs, there are no plausible warnings in any language but Czech, and even the latter is such that even the locals do not understand it. As a cyclist, you have great difficulties to reach melnik....
