A medium size Castle (and later on Chateau) ruins with a partially standing observer tower right in the woods above the Jizera river.
It's actually a remarkably nice place, especially on a sunny autumn day. The ruins are pretty much the same since 1900s, with some small renovations to preserve it underway (some of a pretty dodgy quality, so be careful). You can also explore quite a few cellars and fortress rooms. The view is quite limited due to the forests around, but should be much better from the top of the tower.
The entrance out of the season seems to be free, but the stairs up the (half fallen) observation tower are closed off and there are no guided tours. Otherwise it's reasonable 50 CZK (~ 2 EUR).
Coming here is super easy - you can either come to the upper parking lot, which is a super short and easy walk across the wooden bridge. Or park down the valley and climb up through a forest (and under a train viaduct) for...

Read moreÚžasné místo i objekt! Jde totiž o zříceninu raně gotického hradu a zároveň i renesančního zámku s barokními prvky.
Amazing place and object! It is a ruin of an early Gothic castle and a Renaissance chateau with Baroque elements. Preservation works on the ruins have been ongoing since 1922 to this day. The castle was built in the early 14th century and two centuries later rebuilt into a chateau. In the 17th century it ceased to serve as the seat of the nobility and was rebuilt again for administrative and economic purposes. The whole area was abandoned after a fire in 1720 and eventually became a ruin. Of the former buildings, only the Baroque malt house, part of the northern tower and a number of torsal objects have been preserved. Still, there is so much to see on the promontory above the Jizera River that my visit, with a guided tour and watching a special 3D movie in local infocenter, has stretched for more than two hours. If you stay around or just passing through, do...
