Trosky State Castle — Attraction in okres Semily

Located some 10 km south of Semily - Liberec Region and being one of the most visited sights of the Czech Republic, Trosky is a ruins of a Gothic castle founded in the late 14th century and it became the main symbols of the whole Bohemian Paradise area (Český ráj) for its unique appearance and origin. The siting of the castle on two steep basalt volcanic made Trosky unconquerable as many enemies failed to capture it. However, no fortress can resist the hands of time, so even Trosky, abandoned in the late 15th century, began to gradually fall into ruin.

The castle was founded in the late middle ages, approximately between 1380 and 1390, when the owner of the domain, Čeněk (Lord) of Wartenberg, used the natural defensive features of the basalt rocks. He founded the inner castle with residential palaces on the ridge between both summits, and used the summits for defensive towers also with residential facilities.

The lower summit is 47 m high, called “The Crone” due to its stout appearance, bore the hexagonal two-storey building, accessible from the northern side of the palace. On the higher and slender summit, “The Maiden”, a rectangular palace was built, originally with three floors, allegedly containing the castle chapel. The height of the Maiden above the first courtyard is approximately 57 m made it possible to build a defense system that made the inner castle inaccessible, and provided unlimited all-round view of the castle, its slopes, and wide area around it.

The defensive system consisted of three circles of ramparts, 1.5 to 2 m wide and up to 15 m high. All the courtyards are reinforced by sandstone blocks.

The palaces were only inhabited on the upper floors, and the lower floors provided enough storage space for supplies necessary under siege. Water was drawn from the castle’s own well (30 m deep) on the first courtyard, and from an elaborate system of rainwater tanks was built in the rock at the Maiden.

Thanks to its romantic atmosphere and unique silhouette it became a popular tourist destination in the 19th century and soon received the most necessary repairs. Currently, the castle is managed by the National Heritage Institute based in Pardubice.

Leider war meiner Freundin und mir der Zutritt zur Burg wie auch Hans und Heinrich schon verwehrt geblieben. Anscheinend wollen sie am Dienstag (April) leider keinen Besuch empfangen. Zum Glück wurden wir nicht mit S... übergossen 🙂 und konnten eine gemütliche Runde in der großartigen Natur drehen. Der Weg von Burg Trosky bis zum eindrucksvollem See im Spiel kann so gut wie 1:1 über Tachau mit der Karte aus dem Spiel angesteuert werden. Es ist erstaunlich wie das Spiel die Entfernungen und Wege sehr realistisch einfängt. Den Schmied konnten wir leider nicht finden, sodass wir auf die Hochzeit zugelassen worden wären. 😒 Dafür haben sich uns zwei Schafe und eine Ziege in den Weg gestellt, welche uns aber keine weiteren Infos geben wollten. Die Quest scheint also etwas verbuggt zu sein. Vielleicht kommen wir ja beim nächsten Besuch wenigstens in die Burg.

(Info: Unter der Burg kann man wunderbar parken. Bei Schließzeiten findet man dort auch keinen Bezahlautomaten etc. oder weiter Informationen dazu. Man kann also kostenlos parken, würde ich sagen. Die Öffnungszeiten solltet ihr aber wirklich beachten. Wir dachten, dass man eventuell trotzdem rein kann, nur ohne Tour, aber es war leider verschlossen, was schon schade war, aber nicht ärgerlich. Die Umgebung ist wirklich toll und man kann einen mittleren bis langen Rundweg in dem Gebiet von der Burg zu einem See anstoßen und wieder zurück. Dazu sollte man sich aber einigermaßen gutes Schuhwerk einpacken und ein wenig zu trinken. Man ist wirklich gut unterwegs. Der Weg über "Tachov" ist dabei unserer Meinung nach am schönsten. Man geht "unten" an einer Kreuzung über eine Wiese. Man erkennt aber einen leichten plattgedrückten Weg. Zum Schluss der Wanderung muss man diesen zumindest mittleren Weg über eine Landstraße gehen, wo man etwas aufpassen sollte. Ist man nach dem Landstraßenweg zurück in Troskovice ist es lohnenswert nicht gleich links an der Hauptkreuzung abzubiegen, sondern noch ein kleines Stück zu gehen, denn dann kommt man einen schönen Wanderweg direkt zum Parkplatz hoch mit perfektem Blick auf die Burg. Der Weg wird einem aber auch auf Google Maps zum gehen angezeigt.

Info 2: Der Weg zumindest über "Tachov" ist nicht für Kinderwägen etc. geeignet. Es gibt ein Waldstück mit ein paar unwegsamen Stufen.)

Trosky Castle is situated 10 kilometers south of Semily overlooking the gorgeous rocky and lush green landscape of Cesky raj. It is one of the most famous Czech castles and rests on the summits of two basalt volcanic plugs. On the lower peak is the two-storey structure called Baba (Old Woman), and on the higher outcrop is Panna (Virgin).

The castle is a landmark in the Cesky raj countryside known for its unique appearance and origin. In addition to the standard tours, the castle’s administration also offers night tours of this National Monument and weekend activities focused on families with children.

The towers of the ruins of this Gothic castle are definitely worth viewing. The picturesque ruins are still loved by poets, artists, photographers and...
