I wanted to see the Slav Epic, so I took about four hours one way from Vienna to see it. I was very satisfied to be able to see the huge work in front of me. I heard that this work will be exhibited in a new museum dedicated to this painting that will be built in Prague. There were a few things that bothered me when I saw the exhibition facility today.
1: I think this painting is a national treasure of the Czech Republic, but I think it is being stored in a state where the temperature and humidity are not kept constant.
2: On the day I visited, it was a weekday and I stayed for about three hours, but there were about ten or fewer visitors. The facility itself is far from both Prague and Vienna, and I can only imagine that they are deliberately avoiding showing it to many people.
3: It may have been a coincidence, but I felt that the staff did not even write down basic knowledge about this painting. For example, they were not aware that this painting has a story order and that it is different from the current exhibition preparation.
4: It seemed that there were no pamphlets for sale.
That's all, but to put it bluntly, I could only imagine that they did not intend to show it to...
Read moreMucha’ monumental work is excellent but deserves much better facilities. I have seen the canvases three times, on three different locations. This was a bit depressing despite the investments the city has done at the "unwelcoming" castle. I understand the need to diversify the national heritage across the country but representative and modern facilitities should be built first! The place is very confined place, the size of the paitings calls for a much larger exhibition hall. The black information boards in front all paitings are ridiculously placed very close to the paitings, activating the alarm each time vistitors come too close, or when one tries to scan the QR codes. Very disturbing! It would be enough to move the boards just 30-40 cm off the painted canvas. The staff was relectant to forward this message to the managers, claiming it is "Prague" that decides and not willing to accept any comments. There is a space for improvement! I recommend a visit to the Jewish Cemetery and the Chappel of St. Florian for the views...

Podnikal cesty na konkrétní místa, i v cizině (Bulharsko, Rusko,...), studoval do detailu všechny knihy, pořizoval fotky. Pak nakreslil několik návrhů a nakonec konečné dílo.
