Voergaard Slot — Attraction in Brønderslev Municipality

This turned out for me to be a secret treasure! I have never heard of Voergaard castle before, but the very skilled guide, Rasmus, gave us a lot of valuable insights in the stories of some of the owners and how they affected the place. Not least about the last owner who added items he received as gifts from the Versaille castle in France and the two paintings by big famous artists, Rubens and Goya !! Imagine these two huge icons in the middle of the northern Jutland 😃😃 Furthermore, there was a fantastic exibishion by a Danish artist, Jim Lyngvild, in a building next to the castle whic made the full impression of the place just even more fantastic. I give five stars when I am really impressed, and the only thing that makes it stop at four is the lack of a cafe that serves just a little bit of food. Beautiful castle with rich history. Only guided tours in Danish language are possible, which for me as a Dutchman, speaking 4 languages, is incomprehensible. Before the visit, the languague problem was said to be minimal, since there were guides in English, German and French. I think I did not get more than 10% of the told stories.

After our visit, I saw various German and Dutch vehicles, suggesting visitors facing the same problem.

I think it is a bl.. shame that in this age, where there are plenty of digital options to record the tour in any other language, it is not opted to do so. The investment is minimal, and the target group would be very much enlarged.

Voergaard war ursprünglich der Haupthof in einem Dorf und wurde im Jahre 1510 vom Bischofsamt Börglum übernommen, Bischof Stygge Krumpen ließ das Turmhaus, den älteren Teil des jetzigen Nordflügels, im Jahre 1520 bauen. Nach der Reformation kam Voergaard im Jahre 1536 an die Krone. Im Jahre 1578 übernahm Karen Krabbe Voergaard. Ihre Tochter Ingeborg Skeel, die das Gut erbte, ließ in der Zeit zwischen 1586 und 1591 Voergaards Ostflügel bauen. Nachdem Voergaard wieder nacheinander verschiedenen Besitzern gehört hatte, wurde es im jahre 1686 von Frederik Vind und Holger Reedtz übernommen und war nun bis 1791 im Besitz des Geschlechts Reedtz. Danach hatte Voergaard wieder verschiedene Besitzer und wurde im Jahre 1876 von Peder Brönnum Scavenius erworben. Beide, er und sein Nachfolger, Außenminister Erik Scavenius, führten umfangreiche Restaurierung auf Voergaard durch. Im Jahre 1933 übernahm der staatliche Flurbereinigungsausschuß Voergaard ohne das Hauptgebäude und teilte es auf in Kleinsiedlungen und der Parzelle Voergaard-Haupthof. Das Hauptgebäude und der Voergaard-Haupthof wurden im Jahre 1955 von dem dänisch-französischen Grafen E.O. Oberbech-Clausen erworben. Die Kunstgegenstände auf Voergaard Stammen von den vier Weinschlössern, die der Graf verkaufte als er Voergaard übernahm. Oberbech-Clausen war römischer Reichsgraf und richtete in dem früheren Bischofsflügel eine Kapelle ein für die dänische Provinz des Malteserordens.
