Amager Strandpark, just a short hop from central Copenhagen, is a phenomenal urban beach park that perfectly blends relaxation with active pursuits. It's a man-made island stretching 2 km, offering diverse landscapes from a calm lagoon to sandy dunes and open promenade.
The Great Calisthenics Park For fitness enthusiasts, Amager Strandpark truly stands out with its dedicated calisthenics park. Located within the broader park area, you'll find a well-equipped outdoor fitness zone designed for bodyweight training. This isn't just a couple of pull-up bars; it features a good array of bars for strength training, parallel bars, and even parkour training areas. This allows for a comprehensive workout, whether you're a seasoned calisthenics practitioner or just starting. The open-air setting, with the fresh sea air and potential views of the water, makes for a truly invigorating training experience, far more inspiring than an indoor gym. It's a testament to Copenhagen's focus on public, accessible fitness facilities.
Beyond calisthenics, the park is a playground for all ages and interests. You can indulge in classic beach activities like sunbathing and swimming in the clear waters. For the more adventurous, the lagoon is ideal for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), windsurfing, and kitesurfing. On land, there are beach volleyball courts, extensive paths for cycling and rollerblading, and vast green spaces for picnics and ball games. The park also hosts various cultural events and concerts throughout the year. For a unique aquatic experience, there's even a dedicated diver's lane, "Havheksen," with artificial reefs.
A Very Good "Café Baaden": To complete your visit, a stop at Café Baaden is highly recommended. This unique establishment is Denmark's only café situated directly on the water at Amager Strandpark. It boasts three distinct levels, including a stunning 360-degree rooftop terrace, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the Øresund Strait and even glimpses of Sweden. Café Baaden is praised for its cozy atmosphere and delicious food. Their international kitchen team serves up a variety of popular dishes, from well-regarded Fish & Chips and "Baaden's Burger" to fresh, Mediterranean-inspired salads. It's a place that genuinely strives to make every guest feel welcome, providing a perfect spot to relax with a coffee, enjoy a meal, and soak in the beautiful maritime surroundings after a rigorous workout or a leisurely day at the beach. Its unique location and quality offerings make it a true highlight of...

Read moreAmager Strandpark is one of the cleanest and best-designed urban beach parks I’ve visited. Everything feels modern, well-kept, and thoughtfully laid out. The walking and cycling paths are smooth and wide, the facilities are spotless, and the entire area feels very safe and orderly — a real credit to Copenhagen’s urban planning!
While the water is exceptionally clean and clear, it’s worth noting that it’s often too cold for swimming, even in summer, unless you're especially brave or used to Nordic waters. That said, it’s still wonderful to be near: the sea air is fresh, the views are calming, and the setting is perfect for a long walk or relaxed afternoon by the shore.
