Wonderful peacefull place... You can take a walk to the beach... The parking is very close... Credits by Vadehavskysten "Visitors arriving in Esbjerg from the sea are greeted by Svend Wiig Hansen’s monumental sculpture "Man meets the Sea", which was raised on the occasion of Esbjerg celebrating its 100th anniversary as an independent municipality in 1994. It was officially unveiled on 28 October 1995. The sculpture, made of white concrete, portrays the meeting between pure, unspoilt mankind and nature. Man, innocent as from his mother’s womb. Man before rising up and beginning to act. That, according to Wiig Hansen, was where things started to go wrong - when man got"dirt" on his hands. Wiig Hansen has portrayed this encounter by creating a universal sculpture that has the mood of a temple, of an acropolis - a sculpture with a sacred aura to it. This sacred aura is attained by the rigid appearance of the human figures, something which reminds the onlooker of the Memnon columns or Ramses II gazing out over the Nile Valley at Abu Simbel. It is also impossible for the onlooker not to be reminded of the mysterious stone figures on the Easter Islands. The legs are like the columns of a Greek temple. The lower legs have been made so long precisely so as to achieve this columnlike effect. The upper legs are short in proportion. The identical heads, which with their inscrutable and unfathomable expressions gaze out towards Skallingen and the entrance to the harbour, also contribute greatly to the glimpse you get of the supernatural - a hint of the divine. The sculpture is not tied down to any one age. Its expressiveness, laden with atmosphere and emotion, makes it eternally valid. That the number of figures sitting on the shore is precisely four is because Wiig Hansen found the number harmonious - more in accordance with the basic sculptural concept of "pure" mankind than, for example, three or five. Because of its size (it is nine metres tall) and charisma, the sculpture has become a landmark for Esbjerg. In clear weather the bodies, sitting there like unfurled sails, can be seen 10 kilometres away. Esbjerg has been enriched by a monumental sculpture of international stature."

They look pretty strange the first time one sees them. The first thing that comes to mind is the Attack on Titan manga/anime. Then, after a while you grow familiar with them and you begin to kinda like them. It's a very popular tourist attraction to take a few pictures standing at those men's feet. But each day I see them I can't help asking myself the question of what the men are waiting for. Definitely visit and say hi to them. And for a while wait with them for something or somebody you're waiting for in your life. Who knows, it may bring what you desire closer to you time-wise.

Bizarre monument by the sea in Esbjerg Denmark. Four (really big) male figures which are depicted in a sitting position looking forever toward the open sea. I've read this is a somewhat scaled down version of the original monument which has been planned with larger statues. Even this scaled down version is really impressive, especially if you look at them in a stormy day, where the white material the statues are made of is really conspicous against dark skies. A must see if you are in Esbjerg, which by the way is a nice city

Worth visiting to see the place Men by the Sea if you come to Esbjerge the west of Jutland peninsula in south west of Denmark . These white four art sculpture are huge and very noticeable facing next to sea and it easy to find. Its amazing to look at them while walking down the white sand beach and take photos by the beach side. To get to the Men by the Sea take a bus numbers A1 or A2 and depart every hour from Skolegade at the city center or close to the train station. Both buses will take right to the Men of the Sea.

I was expecting bit too much... a nice esplanade but nothing special except these 4 white statues. (To be honest, these 4 men are not even really impressive or special.) on the beach, The wave delivered or made dirty sandy yellow bubbly foam. and the view of industrial area is not very charming. There is a clean public toilet for free ^^

Great place stop for a picnic or a walk along the beach when in Esbjerg. Right next to the lovely Fishery museum. Parking, toilets, picnic tables and trash cans available. At low tide you can see thousands of sand worms along with mussels, clams, crabs and and seaweed. Great place for beach combing. 💙🌊❤️🇩🇰
