An architectural baroque gem of a house set in splendidly maintained grounds, benefitting from sensitive renovations in recent years. Open to visitors in the summer holiday period - hardly anyone there when we visited midweek. Very good explanatory notes in all the major rooms in Danish, German and English that explains the history of the house and its dark side - of aristocratic estrangement and exile in the 17th/18th century - that is at odds with today's serene appearance! For a guided tour, book online in advance, but we just turned up and 'self-guided'.

A beautiful place, both the castle and the park. Privatly owned, but open to the public during most of the summertime. Guided tours. The castle's history include a romantic love affair were King Frederik IV abducted through one of the windows in 1712 the daughter of the house (which were looked in by her Mother, fearing the kings well known lust for beautiful women).

The Christmas market was nice but nothing extraordinary.

The booths were of varying quality; some very high quality crafts other were weird healing jewelry type booths.

The food selection was very limited and nothing for vegetarians.

The organization was well done; parking was plentiful, there was a steady flow of people, the line wasn’t very long anywhere yet it was pretty...
