This is a great place to bring kids of all ages. To get to the top you need to be fairly agile though and wheel chair access or strollers is not possible except a few days a year where a walking path is laid out like you see on my pictures. The sand dune looks very impressive from the parking lot (free parking) where there are designated spots for passenger cars and autocampers. It can be a bit difficult to find a long spot for autocampers or caravans as some passenger cars doesn't respect the marking. From the parking lot you walk through the most beautiful dunes up on the big Råbjerg Mile Dune. From the top you can see the ocean on both sides of Denmark on a good day. Kid and most adults (self included) thinks it is very fun to run down the dune again. The sand is some of the finest and softest you will find in Denmark. The dune is the biggest migrating dune in northern Europe and has an area of around 2 km2 or 0.4 sqm mile and a height of 40m or 59ft. Which is almost a mountain in flat Denmark. 😉 It is visited by more than 250.000 people every year and is a must see. Expect to spend 1-2h here if you have kids and 1h if you are...

Sitting on top of a dune in northern Denmark was not what I expected when planning our road trip, yet it turned out to be one of the most powerful experiences.
As you watch the ever-changing scenery, with untamed sand trying to conquer the local vegetation, you realize that fighting nature is impossible. Nature always finds its way – and compared to it, we are so small.
It is a deeply grounding feeling, mixing freedom, defiance, and strength. Absolutely stunning. I highly recommend stopping here, taking a quiet moment, and letting the power of the dune resonate within you – a force that follows its own path, no...
Read moreIt's a big dune of sand, nothing more. There is a good parking area, but note that due to the dune is mooving there is a 5 minute walk through sandy paths before being at the actual dune. It is huge, (Danish reference), and a facinating experience, best with good weather. If bringing younger children sell it as the biggest play ground sand box and consider bringing sand toys - then this can entertain for hours. There are no shops or vending machines, so dress for the weather, pack your necessities, (e.g. water) and if going with kids also consider bringing a picnic basket, (and garbage bags, as it would be a shame to leave litter since the trashcans are at the parking). Wheelchairs are not recommended, as sand and wheels are a bad...
