We drove from Copenhagen to Esrum Abbey for about an hour. The abbey itself is surround by beautiful scenery, allowing for a peaceful moment to walk around and absorb the nature and the culture. Before entering the abbey we walked into a room where kids (and small adults) can dress in medieval costumes and play with authentic wooden toys. At the arched basement of the abbey we walked into a shop and cafe which is very nicely decorated. I could visit this place every day if I lived in this area.

The ticket was 95k. After going through the exhibition and what it has to offer, I felt that it was indeed expensive. Especially the interior exhibition which is more focused on light and audio installations. I was, however, impressed with the installation of audio, mimicking monks praying in a hall, with compline sung by Cistercians from Heiligenkreuz Abbey in Austria. The top floor was empty and was meant for children to play around. The park is pretty and one does not need to pay to walk around to enjoy the garden with different kinds of apple trees or watch the streams.

Diese Rezession handelt nur vom Weihnachtsmarkt! Vor einer Woche waren wir im Esrum Kloster am Weihnachtsmarkt. Wir haben uns etwas ähnliches vorgestellt wie an den Weihnachtsmärkten im deutschen Sprachraum. Es war leider eine herbe Enttäuschung! Das Kloster hat zwei eigene Läden, einen Souvenirladen und einen Bierkeller, in welchem man verschiedene Köstlichkeiten kaufen konnte, welche aber sicherlich das ganze Jahr hindurch angeboten werden wie z.Bsp. Bier, Honig etc. Die Ständ waren ein wenig verteilt und alles andere als weihnachtlich. Der erste Essensstand hat Chili con Carne angeboten (was wohl weder weihnachtlich noch Lokal ist). Das hat sich leicht geändert an ein paar anderen Ständen, aber leider war alles sehr ärmlich gemacht. Man könnte mit dem alten Kloster und allem drumherum einen tollen und interessanten Weihnachtsmarkt organisieren. Was die Organisatoren hier gemacht haben, war leider des Wortes Weihnachtsmarkt (noch sonst Markt) nicht würdig, welcher die 50 Kronen Eintritt nicht wert war. Wir sind nach 20 min. wieder gegangen

Only one tenth of the original Abbey buildings remain, and even these have been heavily rebuilt and reconstructed after the reformation. Beautiful place though, good exhibitions for kids. Fine but rather expensive restaurant in one of the adjoining buildings. Buffet in the Abbey building itself during the weekend, but you need to book in advance.

Esrum Abbey is a Cistercian abbey from 1151. The abbey is well preserved, boasts an interesting history and now features a few interesting exhibitions and a cafe. Not to forget, they abbey is located in the National Park “North Zealand of Kings” with breathtaking nature for walks, cycling, angling and much more.

The outdoor part of the museum is nice and can be visited without entrance ticket. The indoor Museum is Not friendly disabled people. Access only by staircase, same where is the exhibition. So, poor museum don't spend any money there its just a Place for a sunday leisure walk.
