We went on a trail run to see these impressive dunes and the lighthouse. We started the run from the parking lot of Mårup Kirke, from where the approx. 1.7 km long route to the lighthouse began, following the edge of a 70 m high cliff. Even the view from the church is wonderful and breathtaking. Approaching the lighthouse and dunes, the landscape became incredibly beautiful and different. This cannot be described in words, you have to experience it yourself.
We hiked up the wonderful dunes and visited the lighthouse and explored the surroundings. Another peculiarity was that the dunes have buried the buildings in the area and they sometimes come to light when the sand moves. We wanted to continue our trail run down on the beach, but finding a safe route was challenging. However, approx. 300 m in the direction of the church, we discovered that you can go from level to level down between the dunes without the risk of landslides, and so we finally reached the breathtakingly beautiful beach, which is bordered by a steep cliff. We continued running along the shore and headed back and soon came to the clay soil piled up by a small stream, where we decided to take clay baths. The experience was absolutely great and the clay was easily washed away in the sea afterwards. After about 2.5 km of running, we came to the steep stairs, through which we left the beach and arrived at the village of Lonstrup and further back to the church parking lot. In total, the length of the route was approx. 7.5 km. One of the most amazing jogging...
Read more(Probably) the BEST (free) attraction in Northern Europe!! After travelling in Europe for the past 50 years [35 in a Motor Home], I have found this remarkable attraction (located between Lokken and Lonstrup, in NW Jutland) to be the very best!! The main features include: a 1.5 km interesting walk for people of all ages, a tractor driven large "carriage" for those unable to complete the walk [including the young and older folk], immense sand dunes, a 100 meter high cliff for viewing the sea and long sandy beaches, a lighthouse which can be scaled for even more spectacular views [and will be moved 70 meters further away from the cliff face], the remains of the lighthouse keeper's home which "imploded" when part of the collapsed {& many visitors have collected some of the bricks to create "sculptures"}, a large car park [where we, and other Motor Homes spent the night], clean/Large toilet facilities and a well stocked "snack shop" [the only places where one has to pay]. This attraction has (deservedly) earned TripAdvisor's coveted "Certificate of Excellence". It is definitely a "Must See".
I hope that this...
Read moreYesterday, I visited Rubjerg Knude Fyr, and it was an unforgettable experience. The iconic lighthouse, standing tall amidst the massive sand dunes, looked like something out of a movie. Its isolated beauty against the vast blue sky made for a stunning sight. Climbing up to the top was totally worth it—the panoramic view over the North Sea and the surrounding sandy landscape was absolutely breathtaking.
The shifting sands around the lighthouse give the place a surreal, almost otherworldly vibe. It’s fascinating to see how nature has shaped the area over time. Luckily there was no wind, so the walk to the lighthouse was enjoyable and peaceful.
If you’re anywhere near North Jutland, this is a must-visit spot. Perfect for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone who just wants to enjoy some quiet time in a unique and...
