DANISH TRADITIONAL CULTURE IN PERFECT SURROUNDINGS! Especially us visitors changing fmrly planned itineraries (boycotting Tariffistan!), instead encountering a tiny peaceful spot called Denmark, which is a true gem! This museum,to get to"the core of the poodle,"(After all, any Faustian neighbors are behind us this year...) feels lightyears away from the mindset certain Big Bullies, thinking we accept anything. (CENSORS reading this; comment of course ref. to COMMIES!)
The Hjerl Hede staffers helpful welcome, and splendid knowledge about the place and its objects' placement in the Danish cultural sphere, will not only enlight, but illuminate, far after you've arrive back home from such ephemeral visit. And don't be afraid to ask; no question is bad (except"wouldn't Denmark be a wonderful 51st State?"). No, something lighter like:"Where do you hide the Pindsvin (hedgehogs in Danish)?" is way better. The Danish version of ''miniature porcupines"(porcupettes!) will melt most hearts, possibly even hard-boiled soldiers, enroute to Greenland (52nd state?), mistakenly dropped at the Open Air museum.
Seriously, Hjerl Hede is one of those places you'd remember with fondness. Hopefully also the swaying blond grainfields in the gentle rolling landscape, the barnswallows and ancient road-side memorials, not to forget a peaceful inner feeling rare in many other countries (said after visiting 54 countries & 5 continents).
Best regards to Your staff, and all those nice Danes we met; you certainly have reason to be proud of that miniscule, but so incredibly well-functioning, piece of Terra Firma called Denmark! From the visiting B K-family (for sure...
Read moreThe place itself is a lovely reconstruction of various time periods of danish history. Different houses represent different periods and have been disassembled at their original location to be put back together in the museum. The staff is friendly and very helpful.
Now the big but. While i think it's an absolutely lovely place for Danes (and especially their children) it's a pain for foreign visitors who don't speak Danish. You do get a flyer in German or English which made me expect to find further information in the different languages on site as well (like in Gammel Estrup). We'll you don't. So all you have is a paragraph for each building with no further info, which is very little especially considering the price of the museum.
So. I would recommend it to Danes who want to find out more about their culture. Would definitely recommend it to danish families. Would NOT recommend it for anyone visiting from another country unless you...
Read more2022-07-28 - We visited Hjerl Hede because we where in the area and sounded like a fun experience for a couple of hours for the kids… We ended up spending most of the day as both we and our kids was really positively surprised about the entertainment and the living figures making it all must more complete! We have never visited the place when it is “not alive”, but I would guess that would require a bigger interest in the historical aspect. We had a great day and will for sure be back even though we need to drive a distance to...
