This museum is a must if you love the North Sea and want to know about the history of shipping and especially wreckage at the Danish west coast. The buildings is new and when you enter you're presented with a storyline, where you first is presented with some history about shipping, about navigation and what happens when everything goes wrong at Sea and a ship wreck! Next is the tragic story of two huge British Naval Ships that wrecked at the Danish Westcoast close to Thorsminde around Christmas 1811. (one of them being HMS Saint George, which the museum has its name from). Next part of the storyline is about the people who had to deal with the crews of the ships that has wrecked. Both the survivors and those who didn't made it - and how it impacted the culture in this rural area close to the sea. After this you enter the cellar where you, like a diver, can "explore" and see things pulled up from the sea.. And finally, there's the panorama deck, from where you have a view of Thorsminde with the fjord on one side and the North Sea on the other. And if you didn't start with having lunch in the café at arrival, now is the perfect time to do so. I must say, their burgers is...
Read moreA great museum. I have read everything and have also heard every audio book that you could hear there. Fascinating to put yourself in this situation from the seafarers from back then. At first glance, the museum doesn't look big. But once you get inside there is so much to discover. In addition, the museum is divided into different floors. That's why it looks so small from outside. Up from the bottom up to the observation tower just amazing. You can do a lot of things there, such as trying on old clothes, etc. A great variety of topics. I could stay there all day. A small negative point was that unfortunately the audio book in the tower was rustling at the end. You could hardly understand anything then. But otherwise a wonderful museum. I could only recommend it to people who are on vacation here, live nearby or just drive by. That's why 5...
Read moreThis museum was one of the best surprises during our Denmark vacation in 2020. It is really nicely done, telling the story of the sunken ships St George and Defence. There are many historic artefacts in the museum, but also the stories behind, both presented in a conventional way and utilising new digital technologies. There are many opportunities for interaction. Also there is a great lookout from the tower of the building and there is a fantastic playground in front of the museum. We can highly recommend this place both for families with children as well as for...
