A Scenic Stroll with a Few Items to Consider
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Stevns Klint in Denmark, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The main highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the breathtaking walk above the cliffs, which offered stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
While the natural beauty of Stevns Klint was captivating, I did encounter a few minor inconveniences during my visit. One issue was the lack of multilingual signage inside the chapel. It would have been helpful to have translations in English, considering the number of international visitors this beautiful location attracts. However, I must commend the park authorities for having signs in both Danish and English (as well as German) scattered along the grounds, which provided some context and information about the area.
Unfortunately, during my visit, the second, more recent chapel was closed, which was a disappointment. It would have been fascinating to explore its interior and learn more about its history and significance. Nonetheless, I understand that occasional closures are inevitable, and it didn't significantly detract from the overall experience.
One thing to note is that paid parking is required at Stevns Klint. However, I found that there was ample parking available, which eased any concerns I had about finding a spot. Additionally, a pleasant surprise was the presence of a playground for kids. It's a thoughtful touch that ensures families with young ones can enjoy the visit even more.
In conclusion, Stevns Klint offers a remarkable opportunity to immerse oneself in nature's grandeur and witness awe-inspiring coastal cliffs. The lack of multilingual signage inside the chapel and the closure of the second chapel were minor setbacks, but the scenic beauty of the area and the well-maintained grounds compensated for these issues. With ample parking and a playground for children, it's a destination that caters to a wide range of visitors. If you appreciate natural wonders and don't mind the language barrier, Stevns Klint is definitely...
Read moreI saw the UNESCO Heritage sign on the way from Gedser to Malmo, so I made a stop at the rest area and googled to find that Stevns Clint is where geologist Walter Alveraz found asteroid evidence in the layers of white cliff theorized the Big Impact theory, which offered exceptional evidence of the impact of the Chicxulub meteorite that crashed into the earth at the end of the Cretaceous, about 65 million years ago. Researchers think that this caused the most remarkable mass extinction ever, responsible for the disappearance of dinosaurs and of over 50 percent of all life on Earth. I was so lucky to have about 2 hours to explore the site before sunset. Had I drove past the area one day ago, I probably would have skipped this side trip due to...
Read moreBeautiful area for a quick day trip to a UNESCO World Heritage site. There is an old church that you can explore before heading down some steep steps to see the cliff. FYI: The beach is currently closed for some work. This is a chalk cliff and one of the sites where you can see the geologic historical record (a strip of dark gray rock in between the lighter rock) of the meteor impact that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. There is a large open field where you can picnic (there are some picnic tables), a park for children to play, and a small restaurant for a quick drink, bite, or treat. Parking is 40 krone. If you like nature and the outdoors, this is a...
