A varied and enjoyable overview of aquatic life from all over the world, topped off with rain forest birds and butterflies as well as sea otters that are quite adorable. Some animals can be touched under the friendly supervision of employees and you can walk through a glass tunnel, thus being right amidst the various sea creatures.
In addition, you can get a feel for 'jurassic' aquatic animals through life-size 3D-models and enjoy some underwater-photographies of a world class photo artist.
The architecture of the building is very unique, too, always leading back to one central spot, so that kids cannot really get lost, but sooner or later will end up in the central square again.
They have marked viewing spots in front of almost all bigger exhibition glas fronts that e.g. groups/families with kids that might want to have a closer look for a bit can stand on, so that on the one hand the view is not completely blocked by people who wish to stay and watch a little longer, so passers-by still get an impression of the wildlife displayed, and on the other hand noone gets hassled and kids have a chance to not have their view blocked by adults.
There are digital displays that give information on the inhabitants for the separate showcases. They can be switched from Danish to English, depending on which language is easier for you to understand.
Of course there are other great aquariums all over the world also. But if you are in the Copenhagen area, this is definitely worth your while.
To avoid overcrowding and long waiting times, the aquarium has tickets that allow for entry at pre-defined time slots, so tickets should be bought online in advance - the website is easy to understand and also shows how many tickets are left for a particular...

Localize other toilets than the one's next to the entrance, they can be crowded when others are not. Bring extra clothes cause kids get wet. It's quite a long walk from Kastrup and then you also walk a lot on the hard floors of the aquarium so put comfortable shoes on and prepare to carry the smallest ones.
Many animals to watch and they are all easy to see. Shark tank is huge, you see sharks and rays real close, great experience. You can touch a lot of animals which is fun for you (but not for them). Picnic area is very good for families. (Next level would be if they added a zink for kids to wash their hands, some equipment to clean the table after yourself, microwaves and recycling bins.) Playground outside is great!
Could not find anywhere to refill water bottles. Doors were super heavy! Saw children ~3-4 yo hit their heads on the doors to the restrooms, and everyone struggled to get in and out to the terrace. Should be more stools available for kids to get att better view, you have to lift them up a lot. Unevenly crowded. It was difficult to foresee where the crowd would appear and something is off with the flow that makes people go back and forth, markings on the floor are too vague. Some animals seemed to be crowded in small areas. It's difficult to imagine a wild animal trapped in some of these very limited spaces. Are they not bored? Depressed?? What to they do all day and all night? Some fish were wounded. Its not every tank that makes you wonder how bad these animals are suffering for our entertainment, but...
Read moreDen Blå Planet/The Blue Planet/Aquarium of Denmark is such a delight to visit! This was my second time coming here as an adult without children, and I thoroughly enjoyed spending hours walking around, captivated by all the cool and beautiful fish.
Compared to many other aquariums I’ve visited around the world, the tanks here are quite large and well-designed, with plenty of plants, corals, and stones that naturally occur in the habitats the fish come from. A few of the tanks did seem a bit small, but I trust that the animal keepers know what they’re doing and take excellent care of the animals. For example, I thought there were too many piranhas in their tank at first, but I learned that in the wild, there would be far more piranhas in the same amount of space.
We had the chance to watch the feeding of the piranhas and also the feeding of the small stingrays, which you can touch. Both experiences were super interesting and fun!
One of my favorite parts was the rainforest area. They’ve created an actual rainforest environment with lots of flora and fauna from the rainforest, making it such a fun place to explore. I loved walking around and spotting the poisonous frogs, birds, and other fascinating animals. It brought back memories of my trip to Costa Rica, as it felt very authentic.
I would definitely recommend Den Blå Planet to both adults and children. It’s a fantastic experience for anyone who loves marine life or unique animal exhibits.
A quick tip: remember to buy your tickets online in advance—it’s cheaper and saves you time...
