San Rafael represents the heart of DR, with its pros and cons. The beach is one of the most beautiful I've seen, it will provide you a feeling of wild and dream together. The sea is connected with a River that comes down from the mountains and it presents many natural pools where you can relax, eat something and dance merengue. Locals are very nice and despite trying to sell you their products, they are also kind and curious to know you. The sea is dangerous and if you are not an expert swimmer I suggest you to not get inside fully. The road to reach San Rafael from Barrahona is beautiful but slow, giving you a sense of a different world where poverty and wild are still part of it.
