Let’s be clear. As a tourist, we don’t know much about a region except for what we learn as we go. When my family and I arrived to the falls, we were told by ( I’m assuming) the owner that it’s 5$ per person to stay there. I clarified that I was told that there was no charge to swim there and he said that the waterfall belongs to the people and that it is free. He then said you pay to stay up on the upper levels where his property is. That seemed fair. We came for the waterfalls and not to sit at a bar so we chose to stick to the water. This was a challenge as there were limited areas that his property didn’t encroach onto but we were only here for a couple hours so staying in the water seemed doable. We had found it difficult to not enter his space when we wanted to get out of the water for a break so we had decided to buy a beer and pop and considered purchasing the mamajuana, maybe coffee, and pay for the 20 minutes break from the water on his property through purchases. He then asked for another 20$ on top on this and I sensed that I was being taken advantage of and left the property to return to the water without making the purchases. I should also clarify that when we arrived, he had stated that he had a hotel and much more to see on his property so it was hard to know where he meant when he said that we had to pay to see these “upper levels” and when I went to pay for the drinks he could have told me then that not paying for the drinks was simply not an option and that the 5 minutes on his property was already enough time on his property to warrant a charge. Instead, upon departure, he chased us and DEMANDED the entrance fee. I explained that his story changed but he retorted to saying that an entrance fee is a reasonable request. When I stated that it was a reasonable request but that it was not his original statement, he spun a web that this is a simple request. To be clear.. we were informed that there was no charge prior to our arrival. He confirmed that a charge was not in place, and proceeded to change his story as we left. I am happy to pay to access a space. I am happy to feed the economy. I do not like being manipulated. What does this mean for the next tourist that comes here? This guy isn’t very nice, but just pay the fee and move on. He clearly thinks he...

Read moreNice place, nice people, interesting information about several trees and plants, we were shown how the 100% natural chocolate and cacao is made. Toilets ok. Tasty fresh lunch with local fruits as desert and delicious coconut bread. Refreshing dip into the small waterfall. From own experience, it seems, that the water itself has some healing features as I got rid of rest of the skin alergy as a reaction on sun + wrong suncream with just one bath. My visit on this farm was within the hole day program called Los Haitises (totally wort to...
