What a great little hike today on our day off in the Dominican Republic. The country has so many beautiful trails and scenery that you must get out of the city and explore the wilderness. We were here working on a project for ourselves and others and wanted to see more. Great day. This hike is fully covered by the canopy, and there was little to no sun the entire time. CRÓNICA DE UNA VISITA AL PICO DIEGO DE OCAMPO
Interesante experiencia la que viví en el día de hoy al visitar la reserva ecológica parque Diego de Ocampo, acompañado de Olmedo León, representante de la Sociedad Ecológica del Cibao (SOECI), Papo, uno de los tres guardaparques de la zona, y Jefferson el joven guía seleccionado para la visita.
Desde Ranchito Piché, en la frontera entre las provincias de Santiago y Puerto Plata, se asciende por un sendero empinado, húmedo y resbaladizo de 1.5 kilómetros. No se engañen con la distancia, ese kilómetro y medio nos llevó 1 hora 40 minutos para alcanzar la cima, el regreso solo una hora.
Me alegró constatar cuánto ha crecido la conciencia ecologista en esta parte del país y los buenos frutos que sigue produciendo SOECI en coordinación con el Ministerio de Medioambiente y Recursos Naturales.
Este bosque nublado, según nos explicó el experto Olmedo León, es reservorio de una amplia variedad de especies vegetales y animales así como una rica fuente de agua donde nacen diversos ríos tanto en su vertiente norte como hacia el sur.
Nuestra visita al Diego de Ocampo nos sirvió para coordinar sobre el terreno el acto en que rendiremos tributo a la memoria de María Teresa Cruz, esparciendo sus cenizas desde aquel emblemático lugar y celebrando su vida con la siembra de un árbol en la zona. Este acto, para el cual se estará invitando a famiares, amigos y relacionados, está previsto para el 20 de enero próximo.
Es mucho lo que pudiéramos decir del Pico Diego de Ocampo, pero es mejor verlo por uno mismo. De todas maneras les comparto algunas fotos que pude captar con mi Xperia Z5.
