Scenic Hike with a Few Surprises
We hiked here from Alausí—about 8 km—and then continued another 4 km to Nizag. We’d heard there was a bus back to Alausí from Nizag, but that turned out to be incorrect, so we ended up hitchhiking back.
The viewpoint itself is in a state of disrepair. The bins are overflowing and look like they haven’t been emptied in years, and the buildings on site are also quite run-down.
That said, the journey is absolutely worth it. The views along the way are stunning, and the hike is a great experience overall. I did the route in a pair of well-worn running sneakers, which were okay, though sturdier shoes would definitely be better—especially with a few damp and muddy sections along the trail.
