WARNING.. you CANNOT pay the fine for overdoing your stay in Peru at this immigration office.. they'll send you back to their bank, Banco de Nación in Suyo (nearly an hour back and forth) which ONLY ACCEPTS CASH AND THERE'S NO CASH MACHINE there. Consequently, you'll be removed from your bus going to Loja from Piura and all your luggage at gone midnight and then be stranded there until morning. I was only given a 60 day stamp and a few days before it expired, I found a 2 week old puppy at the beach who was sick, and I had all the necessary proof from the vet, and that the puppy had subsequently been adopted. I went to immigration in Trujillo before my time expired and they told me it was no problem to pay the fine AT THE BORDER as long as I didn't overstay 90 days which I didn't. Hence, no warning that there was no system to do it there! Apart from that, the immigration service from the personnel here is excellent, and they treated me kindly, and it's fast and efficient. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for this saga, however, I think it's ridiculous that you can't actually pay the fine at the border, and in order to pay the fine at their bank, you need the slip from immigration. BTW, it wasn't a problem that I didn't have the police certificate to prove that I'm not a criminal which is required to enter Ecuador by land or river, but not by plane. As a UK resident, this would have been impossible for me to obtain; you can order it online, but they'll only deliver it to your home address, even when you're the other side...
Read moreWe left Perú to Ecuador here. The Peruvian side is horrible. Because of their stupid system couldn't understand how Chinese names works, they claimed that there was Interpol alert of my name and sent us to the police, who sent us back to Sullana. After 6 hours of waiting, they found out that there were no names similar to mine, but by then it was too late to cross the border. We tried the next day, and had issues again because when we entered Perú, the staff at the border put our passport information wrong (1 was put as I). We had to wait for another 2 hours waiting for them to fill several documents, redo the entry and then the exit before we can leave. The worst thing is none of them apologized to me for their mistakes.
The Ecuadorian side is so good, the staff are nice and friendly, the process is smooth, it takes us less than 10 munites for the visas of three and another 15 munites...
Read moreHorrible experience with an employee from the Peru immigration. Very unhelpful and not compassionate people. The whole process was ridiculous and unnecessary.
We had all the requirements to cross, but it wasn't good enough for one employee who wanted to give us a hard time for what ended up being no reason. Wasted 5 hours...
