A very nice place, and I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Cuenca (or have never been there). Took a taxi there, at the entrance booth the man was very nice and explained the rules of the park to us in English. The zoo does a really good job of trying to keep the animals comfortable, as much as possible in a confined enclosure. I've seen some zoos that are little more than concrete jungles, but this one is incorporated into the side of the mountain. A word of caution: This is NOT a good place for those who can't walk well. The path is steep at points, muddy sometimes, very little in the way of paved paths. It was still a very nice adventure, but one incident caused me to lower the rating. At the end, the man at the entrance booth said he would call a taxi for us. We walked to the covered waiting area, where another man was, he had a walkie talkie, I told him the man called a taxi for us. We waited for a while, no taxi. Others leaving the park arrived at the covered area, used AzuTaxi, got a taxi and left. The man mumbled some comment, not sure what he said. I used the app and got a taxi. It took a while before one accepted, and I never saw another taxi on the way down the mountain.
If you have your own transportation you'll have a great time, if not, be prepared to either wait, or get...
Read moreBe Prepared to Hike! It’s not a big zoo but there are big slopes and downfalls so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. This was my second time visiting and there are much less animals compared to May of 2019. The zoo itself needs to be renovating. For the price you’re charging you would expect more color and better designs. The prices have gone up since last I visited I thought there were going to be improvements but no. Be careful with some handrails when going down they were loose. There isn’t staff walking around to help guide you or answer questions. They provide signs that are fading with information on their animals. Overall visit it’s a nice place to walk. However I don’t recommend it for older people because there is a lot of walking. I came with my partner and we barely stopped to watch the animals and it took us 2.5 hours. If you like to hike it should be a problem if you come with kids please be careful with them. They’re more likely to trip because there are many rocks on the floor. Bathrooms are limited so if you see one and you need to go use it because the next one will...
Read moreCuenca is a magnificent city with colonial touches but a great passion to evolve and be at the forefront in environmental and technological aspects that make it a more livable city, its clean streets, its buildings, the places to go shopping are wonderful. In this city there are many beautiful churches that are worth a visit and constantly recall the Spanish occupation, the churches are full of gold details, as if that were not enough, its parks are very beautiful, it is a city that is surrounded by rivers, that's why it is Called the city of the 4 rivers, there are archaeological ruins and numerous museums, a city that is worth visiting. The biopark is a sample of what humans can do to maintain a balance between the development of cities and nature, the animals look happy, there are a large number of well-maintained exotic animals in environments that perfectly simulate their habitats natural, simply beautiful, I wish all cities had these types of ecosystems with microclimates that help not only reduce the carbon footprint but also reduce the mental tension caused...
