⬇️ Activities in Cuenca to do with kids! SAVE for your trip! THE ZOO Amaru Zoológico Bioparque is literally on the side of a mountain so its really a hike/zoo combo! It’s a great zoo but don’t forget your at high elevation in the Andes and take it slow. @bioparqueamaru PLAY AT THE PARKS As mentioned in a previous post, the parks are fabulous in Cuenca. Our favorites are El Paraíso and Parque De La Madre. THE EXTREME PARK Parque Extremo Turi overlooks all of Cuenca with the most incredible views. The actual “rides” are interesting but Viona had had a blast non the less. Admission to the park was $2 and some of the “rides” cost a couple bucks each. Regardless, the view was worth all the stairs to get to the top! HORSEBACK RIDE The Bellavista Equestrian center offers trail rides overlooking the stunning Tarqui Valley. Its about a 20 minute taxi ride out of the city center but the experience was one of a kind and the kids LOVED it. The owner is also super nice! (I am not a horse person but the views and experience was totally worth it) @centro_ecuestre_bellavista THE SWEETS There are plenty of sweets around the city. One of our favorites Tutto Freddo ice cream shops. It is an Ecuadorian ice cream company serving up milkshakes, Sundays and even a few boozy options that mom loved! @tuttofreddo CAJAS NATIONAL PARK About an hour drive from Cuenca is one of the most beautiful National Parks in Ecuador. The landscapes are jaw dropping! The elevation is even higher here so plan to take your time on a hike, and bring a camera! PIGEONS Threw this one in for shits and giggles because no matter where we go in the world our girls always want to chase pigeons. What is with that?! Do your kids chase pigeons too??? 😆 ✈️ Follow us for travel tips and travel destinations! #

The Amaru Biopark Zoo in Cuenca Ecuador is a very unique experience. Its a 2 for 1 deal of hiking with a fabulous view of the city and you are rewarded along the way with zoo animal interactions. Here are a few facts and things to know before you go: 🦥 The Biopark program is highly focused on the education and conservation of the Ecuadorian ecosystems 🦥 Hours of operation are daily from 9am-4pm 🦥 Cost for entry is $8USD (adults) $5USD (children) 🦥 Bring hiking shoes, water, and sunscreen 🦥 Avoid going after it rains, it will be very muddy and slippery. There were parts that were difficult without having to navigate slippery hillsides. 🦥 Take it slow. It is easy to forget you are at high elevation in Cuenca (about 2500 meters)(8,400 ft for us Americans 🙄) 🦥 You can take a taxi to and from the zoo, the ride from downtown is about $5USD 🦥 Plan to spend 3-4 hours here 🦥 There is a small restaurant and snack area at the top. 🦥 It takes so long to make it to the top but the decent goes really quick as there are much less animal enclosures on the way down. I highly recommend you visit if you are in Cuenca. It is a really fun experience and you are supporting a great local program. Are you into the idea of a crazy zoo hike? . . . #cuencaecuador #cuencaec #turismoecuador #ecuadortravel_ig #travelecuador

A very nice place, and I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Cuenca (or have never been there). Took a taxi there, at the entrance booth the man was very nice and explained the rules of the park to us in English. The zoo does a really good job of trying to keep the animals comfortable, as much as possible in a confined enclosure. I've seen some zoos that are little more than concrete jungles, but this one is incorporated into the side of the mountain. A word of caution: This is NOT a good place for those who can't walk well. The path is steep at points, muddy sometimes, very little in the way of paved paths. It was still a very nice adventure, but one incident caused me to lower the rating. At the end, the man at the entrance booth said he would call a taxi for us. We walked to the covered waiting area, where another man was, he had a walkie talkie, I told him the man called a taxi for us. We waited for a while, no taxi. Others leaving the park arrived at the covered area, used AzuTaxi, got a taxi and left. The man mumbled some comment, not sure what he said. I used the app and got a taxi. It took a while before one accepted, and I never saw another taxi on the way down the mountain. If you have your own transportation you'll have a great time, if not, be prepared to either wait, or get your own taxi.

Be Prepared to Hike! It’s not a big zoo but there are big slopes and downfalls so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. This was my second time visiting and there are much less animals compared to May of 2019. The zoo itself needs to be renovating. For the price you’re charging you would expect more color and better designs. The prices have gone up since last I visited I thought there were going to be improvements but no. Be careful with some handrails when going down they were loose. There isn’t staff walking around to help guide you or answer questions. They provide signs that are fading with information on their animals. Overall visit it’s a nice place to walk. However I don’t recommend it for older people because there is a lot of walking. I came with my partner and we barely stopped to watch the animals and it took us 2.5 hours. If you like to hike it should be a problem if you come with kids please be careful with them. They’re more likely to trip because there are many rocks on the floor. Bathrooms are limited so if you see one and you need to go use it because the next one will...

Cuenca is a magnificent city with colonial touches but a great passion to evolve and be at the forefront in environmental and technological aspects that make it a more livable city, its clean streets, its buildings, the places to go shopping are wonderful. In this city there are many beautiful churches that are worth a visit and constantly recall the Spanish occupation, the churches are full of gold details, as if that were not enough, its parks are very beautiful, it is a city that is surrounded by rivers, that's why it is Called the city of the 4 rivers, there are archaeological ruins and numerous museums, a city that is worth visiting. The biopark is a sample of what humans can do to maintain a balance between the development of cities and nature, the animals look happy, there are a large number of well-maintained exotic animals in environments that perfectly simulate their habitats natural, simply beautiful, I wish all cities had these types of ecosystems with microclimates that help not only reduce the carbon footprint but also reduce the mental tension caused...
