I recently had the incredible opportunity to visit the Cascada de Pailón in Ecuador, and I must say, it was an experience that exceeded all my expectations. This natural wonder left me awe-inspired and rekindled my love for adventure and the beauty of the outdoors.

Cascada Pailón del Diablo. Es una cascada en Los Andes Es una atracción turística popular por la vegetación que la rodea y las rocas que dividen la cascada. Tiene unos 80 metros de altura, y unos 20 metros de profundidad. También tiene las gradas talladas a mano más asombrosas del mundo que llevan a un mirador con vista esplendorosa.

¿DÓNDE ESTÁ LA CASCADA PAILÓN DEL DIABLO? La Cascada Pailón del Diablo se encuentra a 15 Km de la ciudad de Baños de Agua Santa junto al pequeño poblado de Río Verde, en medio del profundo cañón formado por el río Pastaza que desciende desde las faldas del Volcán Tungurahua y desciende hacia la Amazonia. Pero sin duda lo que la hace aún más hermosa y única a la Cascada Pailón del Diablo es su emplazamiento en medio de roca volcánica rodeada de vegetación con una gran bio-diversidad propia del bosque nublado y la amazonia ecuatoriana.

👉🏻 Para ingresar a la cascada Pailón del Diablo existen 2 entradas, una de ellas es la más antigua y larga y la otra recientemente creada y más fácil de acceder.

1. 🟦Ingreso por la parte Baja de la Cascada Pailón del Diablo Parque Pailón Grieta al Cielo Esta entrada es la más antigua y se denomina en la actualidad Grieta al Cielo, se encuentra justo después del puente sobre el río Verde que forma la cascada. Para descender hasta ahí es necesario dejar el auto o la bici en el parqueadero y descender por un sendero hasta el punto de control ubicado muy cerca a la cascada. Este trayecto tiene una distancia de 2.8 km entre ir y venir. Desde aquí pueden caminar y atravesar el famoso puente colgante donde se puede ver la cascada del Pailón del Diablo desde abajo, este puente cruza sobre 2 ríos el Rio verde y el Pastaza. Conviene estar cubiertos o llevar un poncho de aguas, pues dependiendo del nivel de agua en el rio pueden mojarse con facilidad.

2. 🟦 Ingreso por la parte alta y los puentes colgantes del Pailon del Diablo Isla del Pailón Este ingreso es relativamente nuevo ya que se construyó debido al gran volumen de visitas que recibe la Cascada Pailón del Diablo diariamente. Se encuentra en el costado derecho de la vía ecología que recorre la ruta de las cascadas justo al llegar al poblado de Rio Verde. En el sitio existe un amplio parqueadero y algo para comer. Para llegar hasta la cascada Pailón del Diablo hay que recorrer un sendero de 700 metros aproximadamente entre ida y vuelta. Este sendero es muy interesante ya que recorre gran parte junto al rio Verde y se puede observar la erosión causada por el rio sobre la roca volcánica. Si son observadores encontraran varios tipos de orquídeas silvestres en sus arboles En poco se encontraran con esos 2 puentes colgantes que descienden de una manera vertiginosa hacia la Cascada Pailon del Diablo creando vistas increíbles de lugar.

Costos 💰 🟢 Las dos entradas hacia la cascada pasan por terrenos privados y por lo tanto tienen un costo entre 1 - 2 USD por persona. Además a partir de 2021 adecuaron luces led en la Cascada Pailón del Diablo por lo que la visita en la noche es espectacular, a pesar de las críticas recibidas, ya que las luces pueden generan un impacto en la flora y fauna del lugar.

🔝 Dificultad El nivel de dificultad para visitar el Pailón del Diablo es mínimo, comparado con otras excursiones y actividades en Ecuador como: trek en el Parque Nacional Cotopaxi o descender al pie de la laguna del Quilotoa. La visita al Pailón del Diablo está recomendada para ir con niños y adultos mayores siempre y cuando vayan acompañados y utilicen zapatos apropiados ya que el terreno puede ser resbaloso..

🔹 Cuánto tiempo se necesita para visitar el Pailón Para visitar por tu cuenta o en tour privado se suele tardar como mínimo 1 – 2 horas por cada entrada, si tienen tiempo recomiendo visitar la Cascada Pailón del Diablo por sus dos entradas. Sin contar con el tiempo en que nos tardemos hasta llegar al Poblado de Río Verde.

The Pailon del Diablo waterfall can be reached with a walk (30 minutes long) on a mountain path similar to those you can find in the European Alps. However, the path was full of hawkers selling drinks, snacks, objects and other handicrafts . Moreover, we cannot even complain about this situation, given that my daughter bought a headband to stop her hair with ethnic colors. My little children (4-year-olds) had no particular problems following us and, on the contrary, they had a lot of fun. Being Sunday, the place was full of locals doing the classic Sunday trip. So, at the end of the path we had to wait in line for about 15 minutes before approaching the falls. The adults paid a dollar as an entrance ticket, but it was really worth it since the quantity and power of the water are remarkable. It is possible to approach a few meters from the waterfall; the noise is deafening and to make yourself understood you need to scream; in a few seconds you get completely wet, as if you had showered your clothes. Once we moved away from the waterfalls, we changed our shirts and walked over a suspension bridge from where it was possible to admire the waterfalls from afar, and then started the walk to go up to the parking lot.
