We were surprised by the quality of the information provided - contrary to what some reviews below suggest, there are dozens of boards explaining different facets of the fort’s and the city’s history, in both English and Arabic.

From ancient Egyptian/Greek/Roman times to the Ottomans, French and British military rivalries in 1798-1801 and of course the essential role played by the city for pilgrims on their way to Mecca via the harbor, and the Italian phosphate mines and the many gold mines around.

Worth at least an...

I can't recommend El Quesir or this Castle. At the end of the trip you get pulled into the shops we're they try to sell you stuff like spices or tea with very bold tactics by putting the stuff in bags before you even talk about the price. Also it doesn't feel safe for Woman.
