This is a great place for children in Cairo. The exhibits are pretty neat. We had a guide from the museum take us around. She spoke English and was very kind (she works for the museum, not an outside guide). My son liked the Valley of the Kings tomb puzzle (putting back the missing hieroglyphics on the wall), and digging for artifacts. We didn't get to see the whole museum. Give yourself time or come for another visit! I'd avoid Fridays as like most places in Egypt, it's very crowded. We went on a weekday. It's mostly been kept up well. Nice green space...

Our day included two parts: an outside tour of mock up for the river nile, bedwian life... and an inside tour that included a video talking about pharoes then artifacts and games revolving around ancient egyptien life. The tour included a game and info on mummies and mummification, so proceed with toddlers at your discretion or skip that part.
