Lovely historical stop that is still inhabited to this day by the local population. Alexander the Great travelled from Alexandria to the Oracle to find answers and enquire about his future battles. It is believed that his long journey almost came to a tragic stop two times. Once when his convoy ran out of water and once when the sandstorm left them lost in the desert. Both times Alexander was blessed with a divine intervention when the gods send him rain and then two snakes that guided him right to the gates of the temple. Alexander was warned not to share the prophecy he received with anyone apart from his mother however, it is believed that he came out with a mysterious smile on his face before return...

Simple historical place with a great view to see all siwa Located 4 km east of the present town of Siwa, the Temple of the Oracle is believed to have housed the famous Greek oracle of Jupiter Amun, to which Alexander the Great headed directly when he came to Egypt for the first time in 331 BC. Reputedly, it is believed that the Macedonian leader asked the oracle if he was going to “rule the world,” legend has it that the answer was “yes, but not for very long.” The temple has a great vestibule and forecourt. Nearby, south of the temple, you can reach the temple of Amun which dates back to...

If you visit independently then you should read up on the importance of the temple. There are no information boards inside just a plaque on the exterior. Alexander the Great visited The oracle here before going on to conquer the world. The ruins are in a bad state of preservation but some detail is visible. You'll visit here more for the history and significance of the place. Get some good views of the area. Entry tickets 50 pounds and bought from a small shack as you walk towards the steps. Not far from the Cleopatra Spring, which is worth a visit for a dip or just a...

The Oracle A very famous Amun temple, now more popularly known as the Temple of the Oracle thanks to Alexander the Great's visit when he invaded Egypt, is located near the largely deserted settlement of Aghurmi in the Siwa Oasis. Actually, there are two temples at Siwa dedicated to Amun; the other is Umm Ubayda. It is a magnificent sight and is perched atop a flat rock. This temple and its Oracle flourished well into the Greek and Roman eras despite being constructed during the 26th Dynasty (though the Oracle's genesis is said to be much, much older).

It is a fascinating historical site that offers a glimpse into the ancient world. Its ruins, perched on a rocky hill, provide breathtaking views of the surrounding oasis and desert landscape. The temple's connection to Alexander the Great, who reportedly visited the Oracle of Amun here, adds an air of mystery and significance. While the structure is weathered by time, its cultural and historical importance make it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and travelers alike.
