Ras Mohamed is a National Park for its marine life / environments ... don't go via a land excursion! I was here in the 1990s and the boat traffic and people visiting has exploded in number since. Best to visit via a boat trip, which will usually offer two stops at reef sites plus a stop at White sands (an atoll - strip of sand on a reef just above water). Your boat will likely have a mix of groups, some scuba divers (from introductory dive to advanced, etc.), snorkellers & white sands visitors, etc. Leaving port, it takes a while (~45/60 minutes, depending on 1st stop) to get to the 1st reef. Divvers will be 1st to set up & leave the boat (not including the introductory, try-dive, divers) then those snorkellers & swimmers. The time at the stop will be governed by the divers; eg, depending on how many try-dive divers there are, the instructors will take 1, do the shallow dive take them back to the boat and repeat with the next 1. Snorkellers will be taken on a little tour of the reef as 1 group too. Due to how many boats &, therefore, people at reefs the boat team will seek to manage everyone who wants to be in the water. People have been known to be left behind! However, boat staff & dive instructors are usually very good. Also, do be prepared for the almost chaos in the water, as there could be any number of boats mooring alongside your boat at a reef and all the people each one brings - peaceful & calm it is not! However, the underwater life is simply stunning and worth it all. There are many reef sites to visit here and all are fabulous. A scuba divers must visit, and you will have the chance of seeing big fish at the drop offs...
Read moreRas Mohammed National Park, located at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, is a breathtaking destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Renowned for its stunning coral reefs, vibrant marine life, and dramatic desert landscapes, this national park offers an unforgettable experience.
Marine Life and Coral Reefs The park is a diver’s paradise, boasting some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. During my visit, I was mesmerised by the sheer diversity of marine life. From colourful corals to a plethora of fish species, including barracudas and clownfish, the underwater scenes were nothing short of spectacular. Snorkelling and diving here are must-do activities.
Landscapes and Wildlife Beyond the underwater wonders, Ras Mohammed is also home to unique desert landscapes. The stark contrast between the azure waters and the arid, rocky terrain is breathtaking. Wildlife enthusiasts can spot various bird species and, occasionally, gazelles roaming the area.
Facilities and Accessibility The park is well-maintained with basic facilities for visitors. However, it is recommended to bring your own supplies such as snacks and water, as amenities can be limited. Accessibility is generally good, with guided tours available for those who prefer a structured visit.
Overall Experience Ras Mohammed National Park is a gem that offers a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility. Whether you're a seasoned diver, a casual snorkeller, or someone who simply appreciates nature, this park has something to offer. I would highly recommend it to anyone...
Read moreI have been visiting Ras Mohammed National Park regularly every year since 2023, and it remains one of the most impressive snorkeling sites in the entire Red Sea. During one of my recent trip I joined a boat tour with multiple stops along the reef, and every location offered something different: shallow coral gardens, vibrant walls full of orange anthias and dramatic drop-offs that fall straight into the deep blue. The water clarity is exceptional, and as soon as you enter you can clearly see colourful fish moving right above the corals.
Marine life is always abundant here. Even without diving deep I regularly encounter butterflyfish, parrotfish, pufferfish, sergeant majors and many other species swimming very close to the surface. I also enjoy doing short apnea dives along the wall, and visibility remains perfectly clear even at depth, making the area ideal for underwater photography and short videos.
Facilities inside the protected area are intentionally minimal, so it’s essential to bring plenty of water, sun protection and especially a rash guard. The sun is extremely strong and you can burn quickly, even during short sessions in the water. Mobile signal is weak, but the natural beauty fully compensates. Ras Mohammed remains a must-visit every time I return to Sharm — a genuinely pristine Red Sea experience that never...
