Lake Ilopango — Attraction in Departamento de La Paz

I was really amazed by the beauty of this place. We took the boat ride around the lake. Ilopango is a small rustic town with quaint houses and very narrow streets. One thing I noticed was that the drivers were very good at maneuvering their cars on the road.

The locals are friendly and very curious. I’m African American and I saw them staring at me and my daughter. Some of the locals even asked to take pics with us. We even took pics with the armed police/military who were constantly patrolling the areas to protect the tourists. I felt safe in this area.

The food near the lake front is awesome. We had seafood soup and a platter of fried fish, shrimp, tortilla strips and we washed it down with a chilled Regia beer. The breeze coming from the lake was very soothing on our skin.

We went there 2x but the second time we only went for the tasty food..

The water was too cold to get into but the view is beautiful and you can rent hammocks. Beware of scams though, when we asked someone how to get a hammock he said we could rent one for an hour for $40 USD but we found out later from a shop owner you pay at the entrance $2 to rent one for the whole day. Amazing view..head here early in the day and leave before sunset as advised by the locals .the shacks right at the lake are a marvelous place to relax and enjoy the view with a book..the sea food was delicious.. especially...
