I was really amazed by the beauty of this place. We took the boat ride around the lake. Ilopango is a small rustic town with quaint houses and very narrow streets. One thing I noticed was that the drivers were very good at maneuvering their cars on the road.
The locals are friendly and very curious. I’m African American and I saw them staring at me and my daughter. Some of the locals even asked to take pics with us. We even took pics with the armed police/military who were constantly patrolling the areas to protect the tourists. I felt safe in this area.
The food near the lake front is awesome. We had seafood soup and a platter of fried fish, shrimp, tortilla strips and we washed it down with a chilled Regia beer. The breeze coming from the lake was very soothing on our skin.
We went there 2x but the second time we only went for the tasty food..
