I'm a bit torn. This National Park is definitely a great place to visit and the park management is very good. If you consider yourself a person who cares about our environment or you possibly still need an idea for an act of kindness for that day or you wanna fill up your karma points or whatsoever, then go and pick up some of the garbage along the way. (Thank you and have a nice day!)

BUT....On the other hand it seems like a lot of people don't know the difference between an ashtray/garbage and a National Park. Since this place is close to Tallin and Tallinn is the most touristy place in Estonia, this park is also more frequently visited by tourists than other places. Sadly, as a consequence of this there is also more garbage. I don't understand how people can have such little respect for our environment and how some people can't even make it through 5km without smoking a cigarette! If you are one of those people, do everybody a favor and don't go there! And if you do it anyways, make sure you reflect on your approach on...

Plan to visit at least 2 places We visited the eastern side of the park, starting from the visitor center Palmse and then drove to Oandu wishing to see the beavers in a nearby trail. However, in the visitor center in Oandu they advised us that it was not worth it as the season was very dry and there was no water nor beavers. So we ended up walking the Oandu loodusmetsa trail in the old forest which was really nice. Then had a really lunch at Altja kõrts restaurant, played a bit in the outdoor games and left. We did not know at the time that it was well worth the visit Viru raba õpperada so we missed it.

I would recommend doing some more research before going, as signs and paths are not clearly marked in English and it is easy to get confused. Distance are big, so you better make a plan ahead of time on where you want to go. I wish I had done that before going and...

Lahemaa National Park is a vital area for both ecological and cultural preservation in Estonia. Its diverse landscapes, rich biodiversity, and historical landmarks make it a unique destination that embodies the connection between nature and human heritage. As one of Estonia's most treasured national parks, Lahemaa continues to play an essential role in conservation, research, and environmental education.

When we asked the hotel staff and tourist service center for advice, they recommended joining a day trip as the best way to reach our destination. However, they also informed us that tours may not be available on weekdays in May. The hotel staff even suggested hiring a car to get to the location via Bolt. However, we decided to try something different and opted to take the local bus to the park. The weather was lovely that day, and the scenery in the park was breathtaking. The pathways were easy to walk and navigate. I would definitely visit this park again in the future.

Really beautiful area, massive too. Plenty of hiking trails, picnic spots and conservation areas. Along the coast there are some lovely quiet beaches, dome have basic facilities, others have snack bars or shops. RMK do a wonderful job of keeping the place tidy and pleasant. Camping is generally free (basic) and fires are allowed in designated areas. Be sure to pick up a map and consult guides before starting your adventure. Be sensible, and remember to take any litter away with you.
