Mehikoorma Lighthouse — Attraction in Räpina vald

Very nice and unique landscape place. The connection beween Peipus and Pskov lake- Lämmijärv is one of the narrowest places of the Peipus lakes system. The opposite coast and Russias territory just hundred meters away. Nice lighthouse and borderguards station. Territory is a border zone and cameras are everywhere. The place is historical WWII Soviet Estonian Troups formations(Estonian Shooters Corps) dessant operation place of 1944. The memorial plate is installed on the big granite stone. Previously before the lighthouse renovation it was istalled directly on its wall. New Estonian monument for Estonian collaboration soldiers(20th Estonian SS division) memory is placed near the parking lot. Estonians description and maps of the defence operations with Collaborants and German Nazys Wehracht is on the black stone plates. The history explained, that Estonian collaboration soldiers fought for Estonian independence. Maybe because of the sensitive topic it is only on Estonian. The place is a great example of local national tradegy and historical revisionism. Estonian soldiers from both sides fought against each other.
