Things I didn't like: The mattresses (at least in the Kalevipoja rooms) were the thinnest softest foam, became paper thin just by pressing with a finger. Even if in the pictures it looks like thick nice beds, it's not true, they don't hold the weight of a human adult body. Such a hard surface made everything in my body hurt, so for two nights I not only didn't sleep but woke up with a locked back and soreness everywhere. The toilet seat was broken and came off the hinges just by lifting the seat cover or seating on it, causing quite many scares. Also the toilet door was filled with mold because it's just some compact wood and the shower points straight to it. It was quite unsettling to think where the mold is spreading. The sink smelled so bad... Not sure if it was the water that smelled like sewer or the sink itself. Brushing teeth there wasn't very nice. The room was FILLED with green flies and mosquitoes when we went in, despite the window being sealed shut, so they might have left the door open for a long time while cleaning. I had to spend 25 minutes killing the insects and still got bitten several times, causing an allergy reaction on each bite, so not sure which insect it was that bit me. The toilet door didn't stay close, even after using the lock. The hole where the lock goes in is worn out and I had to forcefully lift the door and pull hard to fit it on the deepest part of the hole or it would fling open (it's quite heavy) and hit the other person sitting by the bed in the head. We wanted to do archery. They charge 10 euros for one bow and 3 arrows for 30 minutes. Not bad right? Except that they only have 4 arrows in total, so one bow comes with just one arrow and still costs 10 euros. Also if you lose or break an arrow it's 10 extra euros, but I don't think they use those 10 euros to buy new arrows. If you go by car on the weekend, be prepared to park VERY far away because it's quite busy with people who go just to the restaurant or to spend the day.
Things I liked: it's a truly awesome place, actually. The decorations and immersive locations and activities make it truly beautiful and unique. The WiFi signal was good, luckily, because there was no phone signal by the cabins.
Overall, I've gone there a few times over the years, and after this stay I don't think I'll ever go spend the night there again. It's a nice place to spend a day or go eat, but that's it. Probably the rooms inside the main lodge are better, at least judging by the pictures and reviews, but they're also way pricier than the ones...
Read moreWorth a visit, especially if there is something going on. They show you how to fight, play and eat, the guys are dressed accordingly and there is a wonderful children's area, that represents the viking style playground (might not be 100% authentic, but is a lot of fun!) The food is good, might be a bit expensive, but you need to consider, that the entrance is free of charge and this is a business that needs to make at least some money. The village is situated close to the city and is easy to find. What I missed there is the event schedule and what you can find where at what time. During one visit we met a coin maker in the castle, another time his stall was empty and closed. One time there were guys playing middle-age games, another visit there was no one at all. This makes the planning difficult. Another point: the place is great, but it they would add some speakers on the light poles and let some viking music play the whole time (there is this kind of music playing, but only on one spot) that would enhance the whole experience even more! Overall this is a wonderful place where you can bring your guests from other countries, which is not far away from Tallinn and offers good food and...
