The name of the monastery, ‘Ura Kidane Mehret', means 'The Source of God's Grace’ in Amharic, and, as its name suggests, it is visited by many pilgrims and worshippers as well as Western tourists. Founded in the 14th century and renovated in the 17th and 18th centuries in particular, the monastery is known for its beautiful frescoes and murals, which vividly depict Christian saints and stories. We had a nice time at ura kidane mihret monastery, was founded around 14th century by abune betre mariam and the monastery located in zegie peninsula, and is one of the seven churches/monasteries located in zegie peninsula. Also the monastery have a museum. The museum have collection of old manuscript books(written in Gəəz language), crosses, hagiographies, royal family's clothes used by kings, Queens, and others, etc. The monaster is circled by dense forest.
