𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚: 𝐋𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐞 At an average of 87 meters and a maximum of 266 meters, Shalla is Ethiopia’s deepest lake by far. The alkaline lake is found in the Great Rift Valley very close to its brother Lake Abijata in West Arsi Zone. It lies close to hot springs that bubble up and fill the area with steam locals say is good for the body. The lake is part of the Abijata-Shalla Lakes National Park, home to ostriches, flamingos and more flora and fauna as well as geological peculiarities of significant interest to anyone who wishes to experience the valley in all its glory.
